If you fancy riding in France there are sportivs all over. The French cycling federation usually lists a few www.ffc.fr. The Ardechoise (www.ardechoise.com) is well worth a visit.
I won't ride sportivs in the UK. Too many badly organised events with appalling riders (taking themselves too seriously) mixed with appalling drivers doesn't make for a good day out. Try a French one and you'll see what I mean.
Cheap sportives for people who don't need arrows to follow, feed stations, or 5 grands worth of Pinarello.
