Hi folks, probably a pretty dumb question, but, I notcied that my front wheel was slightly loose after a ride, so tightened the QR skewers pretty tight and that seemed to sort the problem. Went for a ride today and the front end felt pretty sketchy on the downhill sections, so stopped and checked and yep, the front wheel was loose again. Is it time for new skewers or could there be another problem?
This is a known issue with a QR and a disc. Basically the off-centre forces produce precessional forces which unscrew the QR.
Some designs of fork and some of QRs are better or worse - by repute shimano QRS are good.
Basically if a series of factors stack up against you this will happen however I bet within 5 mins someone will come along and tell you you didn't do the QR up properly.
This is why for offroad I will only use bolt up axles with discs.

See pinder v fox as well
bearings worn or need adjusting of cup and cone.
Silly question, but you haven't broken the axle have you?
Quite common if it's a cheapy shimano hub.
U probibly didnt do it up tite enuf it shud be wikid tite I whak it with a rok to be saf but if u dont do wikid jumps or whoteva it shuld be ok coz the breaks push the whele into the fork when u pul the breaks so if you pul the breaks when u go ova a jump the whele cant full out
You have truly become a parody of yourself, Mark. Stop trying so hard!
the Hope QR skewers saved the day!
What make/material of skewers? Millions of bike miles are covered everyday without skewers detaching themselves and hurling the biker population to sudden death.
How dare you bring Facts into this Onion!
