Looking at up grading to an old favourite a Brooks leather saddle .

Previously had a B17 years ago ,loved it but left on my tourer when I sold it.

Looking on amazon lists and B17 standard goes for £63.
narrow £67.
MTB special for £92.
and I can't see a reason for massive price difference .
anybody know a reason ,advantage to the mtb specific .?

Given that the Brooks website doesn't list a specific MTB model, I'm guessing they are the same thing.

In that case could be just supplier on amazon trying to take advantage of non savy buyers then .!

Its sellers bull, there are no MTB specific models sold by Brooks.

There are models which are more suitable such as the B17 narrow as its easier to get off the back of the saddle for descents compared to the extra width on the standard model.

I used to use a B17 Champion special on my MTB ,most comfy saddle ever,

Spa Cycles do some nice homages for less £ though or if you dont mind spending more Gilles Berthoud do some which I feel are more suited to MTB (stainless rails,Composite cradle)plus they are rebuildable,
Planet X seem to have the best prices on the Gilles Berthoud saddles.

There is (or was?) a MTB specific brooks - I've one on my inbred.
Its the same shape as the B17, but with thicker (possibly more weather proof) leather, and some VERY stiff springs.

I think the models called the 'Conquest'

The 'Brooks Conquest' is probably designed for touring rather than a 'specific' MTB model.
Bit of a heavy beast which is getting on for nearly a kilo in weight.

Think it will be the B17 standard ,which i had before, never had issues with proofing, just need to look after it correctly.

Thanks folks.
