just got back from long xmas break and just wondering what the bridleways n tracks in S.lakes are like. Are they sheet ice type stuff or just hardpacked snow with some grip?

Don't know about S Lakes but I went up in the Howgills yesterday walking, to about 600m - it was pretty icy lower down and fairly deep snow in places higher up. Would have been rideable in places imo but very hard work and possibly pretty sketchy coming down.
Not really worth it imo if conditions are similar in the Lakes. Get some crampons and an ice axe instead!

Havent been out on my bike but have been on a few walks over the last week, grizedale and tilberthwaite direction are both covered in compacted snow that has been frozen. So not sheet ice.
