Cut down the centre so each half can rotate independantly

I'd flip the tyre to suit whether entering either a left or right hand turn.

I'd have probably swapped the tyre round to the accompaniment of much swearing until I spotted that.

Maybe it's unicycle specific?

I guess it depends if it's on the front or back.

Stick it inside out.

STW would likely get outraged, shout lots on the internet, abuse the LBS and then realise they actually wanted a completely different sized wheel/tyre combo anyway.

This. That pattern would go in opposite directions on the front or back IMO

central arrow would point forwards looking down on the tyre on the front and face backwards on the rear.

so ignore the Direction arrows 'helpfully' moulded into the sidewall?

The arrows assume the bike is being viewed from the chain side, as bikes are traditionally photographed that way. So whatever way you have the tyre on, it will look right when photographed.

Only they got it wrong, so it will always look like it is put on the wrong way...

I'd rotate it eternally, and become a source of renewable energy.

Well in this instance the point is moot but in general I go on the tread pattern rather than what the arrows say. I expect in a double blind test I wouldn't able to tell the difference anyway but it makes me feel better

STW would sell that tyre and get a M'Mary or a Minion of course.
