What's the widest tyre you can get on it, which has some good knobbles on it?

Thanks

If 29+ my view is 3"max if you want any mud clearance..so how about Minion DHR or Dirt Wizards, got to be better than Knards?

On my Singular Rooster I go from 29 x 3.0 Chronicles to 2.5 WT Shorty’s for winter and they’re great. Hard work on tarmac as you’d expect but great everywhere else at this time of year.

Minion DHF 3.0 on the front. Grip until the cows come home 🙂

Current rear tyre is a Maxxis Chronicle, and to be fair it's not bad on the sandy and flinty terrain around me. However, I'm keeping my eyes open for a good price on a 29+ DHR.

Thanks. I'm in the Chilterns so lots of sloppy mud, slippery roots and leaves so need something more than grippy than my chronicles for the rear.

DHF 3 here.

When I swap over from the summer knard it's like getting a new bike - feels like a hooligan in comparison, grip for days!

I’m using a DHF 29x3 too, it really is a huge, confidence inspiring beast, good on roots and rocks. Paired with a Surly DW on the back.

They are OK, but in really slidey mud there’s not as much grip as a shorty.

When I had a Krampus the best winter combo I found was a Surly Dirt Wizard up front and a Bontrager Chupacabra on the rear, options were limited back then though. The new Maxxis Minion 3.0 looks good.

Is there enough room for the DHR, it's quite tight with the chronicle, or shall I get the Shorty?

I'll search around and report back on any deals I find.

Bontrager XR4 here. Tried DW in the past but it was narrower/not as tall as the Knard being more of a 2.8”...haven’t tried the DHR to compare.

DHF front and DHR rear here, lots of grip in anything but real slop and doesn't fell too draggy

Hijack, I’ve been Krampus curious for a while now but I’ve been not wanting to break my ‘three bike’ rule. I have a CX that gets used for fast stuff, BW spins, Road, light Trail, generally all round. I can see how mostly a Krampus would replace it without issues but what about road use? It’s not often I do big road days, but any Krampus owners want to comment? Would you just stick narrower tyres on, pump up the 29x3’s or avoid like the plague?

You can ride it on the road (though it's not its natural environment). Though with some 29er wheels with maybe 42c gravel tyres it'd probably power along fine n dandy.

29x3 on the road isn't great, especially going around corners. Not had the need personally to run narrow tyres so couldn't say,but should be fine, just might look a bit odd.

Cool, food for thought. Cheers and sorry for the hijack!
