[#13536184]

Afternoon all.

Looking for some help. My son needs a new 32T chain ring on his Marin Riftzone 2022

<a href=" removed link " target="_blank" rel="noopener">Picture Here

It looks like it's a FSA Grid crankset. I tried a 10mm allen key, but I must need a special tool to remove the outer cap.

Do I then need a puller or will it slide off?

Then what about replacing the chainring itself? Unfortunately I'm struggling to find a replacement in stock, any compatible chainrings out there?

Thanks in advance.

No picture showing in your post but from your mention of an outer cap my money is on it being a self extracting crank, just undo the central hex fitting and it'll push the crank off.

Thanks for that, does this link work? Not sure why I can't attached pictures here.

I did try to undo the 10mm hex, whilst it loosened off, it then went tight like it was pushing against the cap and therefore didn't want to go any further in case I broke something.

Looks like its a self extracting bolt.

Either way you'll might need a pin spanner to refit it

Kept going and got it off, thanks.  Just need to figure out which tool now, but it's kind of irrelevant if I can't source a new chain ring 🙁

I don't know what took takes that chainring off. It could be a cassette tool.

Oh, better get one ordered up as I'll need to put it back together so he can ride it until I can source a chainring.

As you have found out, what you were doing was correct.  The bolt pushes against the cap to remove the crank.  You have done the right thing

Now you need a Park LRT-3 or similar to remove the chainring.  Park is obviously pricey and something way cheaper is probably available

Either way you'll might need a pin spanner to refit it

I don't think this is correct, you don't want to remove the self extractor cap

As for a replacement ring, google throws up a lot of 'sold out' examples.  May be worth contacting Windwave?

Hopefully you didn't take the cap off as there wasn't a need.

Top tip for loosening those bolts or similar ones like SRAM is to put a block of wood under the drive side pedal with it in the forward position so it cannot rotate the cranks when undoing.  Push down on the bike and it's much more stable than trying to brace crank with a foot.
