[#11269937]

Just built myself a new bike:

and I am looking at some upgrades.

Things I am thinking of:

New handlebars as the old ones are £7 off ebay and I'm a bit worried about their quality.

A new 9 or 10 speed full drivetrain with large range (I'm thinking >40 teeth on the biggest cog or similar) as the old one has some issues and doesn't have the greatest range.

Dropper post (27.2, 125mm, external)

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

@Daffy I am happy with the brakes as they are, I've never had any problems with them and they are sufficient for my weight.

@kayak23 how much should that increase my speed by? 5% ?

Dropper post. It's an old bike, no point spending much money on it.

There are bargains to be had on the outgoing 10spd Deore kit… I grabbed a spare 11-42 cassette for under £15, new.

@kelvin I was looking at those ones, do you have the link or was it an offer?

Just an ebay bag. I’ve seen them several times now, often listed by model number, no mention of “deore”.

I'm very lightweight. I have cable discs on my gravel bike. They are OK for the use I put them to but I wouldn't want them on my MTB.

The handlebars.
No sense in worrying, and if you upgrade to a new bike, you can move the bars over to that one.

Handlebars first if they’re in doubt.

Then a dropper post, then brakes (once you’ve tried decent hydraulic brakes you’ll agree that most cable discs suck), then go 1x.

You can’t get away from the fact you’ve probably got old geometry and 26er wheels (assumptions include making) so Inwouldnt sink too much cash into it unless it’s stuff you can transfer to a newer frame in due course.
