We will be in touch
OK, so the irritating creak is back. Had it basically all through yesterday's ride and it's at the stage where is doing my head in!
We've established it's not the rear wheel, as we switched it for another one and it still creaked. It's not the bottom bracket, just had that replaced. It's not the suspension, as there's no sound when I bounce on the pedals.
So any ideas? Could it be the chain? Relatively new chain, but it only creaks when I'm putting a fair bit through the pedals?
saddle
seat post
cracked frame
a mates 5 did this with a couple of wheels but not another so i think we declared it to be some hub spacers, but not some others. whats the bike?
Check that the cranks are tight in the BB. My BB is pretty new and I couldn't work out why it was creaking, but I'd not put enough preload on them before tightening the pinch bolts.
Cranks? seatpost? Pedals? Cassette on tight? QR's tight? What bike?? Is there a known problem? Where do you think the creak is coming from...ie front or back? Is everything lubed/greased done up to correct torque, from stem to rear mech? I don't know!!! Just throwing up ideas of where I would look!
Definitely not saddle or seat post, still creaks without post in! Had creaking issue before I switched the bottom bracket, it was one of the reasons I had it changed.
It's a canyon nerve am.
Could still be the suspension. My bushings are worn and it creaks pedalling, but not if I just bounce on the pedals. Not sure why, but had the same on previous bike with the pivots, only creak under load but not bounce. In my case the bushings on the rear shock are the most common cause of my creaks (apart from myself 😀 ).
Spudly, massive off chance here, but was this bike in a well known Wiltshire bike shop on Saturday?
You checked that it's only from pedal/crank/BB area? by that I mean not pulling on bars too much when putting power down. Could be you need to check all the headset stuff is greased and tight?
Pedals, chainring bolts, saddle, seat post, gear cables (either where they enter the shifters, or if unenclosed, the bit attached to the frame where they transition from enclosed to open). Grease is your friend.
Just spent a fortune tracking down a rattle over rough stuff. Turned out to be the little springs in the brakes had lost their tension and the pads were rattling. Cost me a new rear mech, chain and cassette.
Could still be the suspension.
This would be a good thing to check...you had it long/rode it lots/hard?
The last annoying creak I spent ages tracking down was the rear mech hanger :-/
Pretty certain the creak is towards the rear, but whether it's further than the bottom bracket depends on where you listen!
I did wonder about the pedals, but wouldn't they creak creak when I bounced on the suspension?
Can't be cassette or qr, surely creak would have disappeared when we switched the wheel?
Flash, nope I'm up near Birmingham.
Servers, Yep tried pedaling with almost no pressure on the bars versus almost A wheelie and no difference. It's about a year old, been ridden a fair bit but i doubt anyone would say ridden hard, maybe 3 times a week Max.
I know you said you changed the back wheel etc. But have you tried greasing the QR skewer for the rear wheel ? It sounds daft ut is often the cause.
Got it. Just sounded exactly like a other creaking Canyon I saw at the weekend.

I've been chasing down a creak which was audible from the BB area for a few weeks. Id had a look at everything else & decided to check the (Hope) rear skewer. It was tight but obviously not tight enough :o( Problem now solved, perhaps worth having a fiddle.
D.
My Stumpy was doing this, I tracked it down to the suspension linkage, took apart packed with grease and the noise has gone.
Oddly it didn't sound like it was the linkage as the noise reverberated through the frame.
Does it have replaceable dropouts? My old Heckler creaked there.
+1 for mech hanger. Had a creak on my 575 that was driving me nuts. I thought the carbon rear was giving up. Checked and regreased pedal spindles, BB, QR, bushings etc to no avail. Eventually found a few threads where people had traced it to a loose mech hanger. Lo and behold, the two tiny allen bolts holding the hanger in place were very slightly loose. Now creak free. Bliss. Hope you track it down.
Front mech clamp?
loose mech hanger, seriously. 🙂
I replaced the BB on my XTC before realising it was my QRs making that horrible creaking noise. Seemed to be the actual camming parts rather than where they contact the frame.
Anyhoo, try cheapest/easily swappable parts first!
Only going on my experience but try taking the pedals off. Pop some copper slip on the treads then tighten them tighter than tight. I used a seat post to extend my puney spanner. That did the job for me!
just fixed a creak on mine
turned out bb had worked loose on both sides, so retightened, and all ok now
other creaks discovered - seatpost clamp, rear QR not tight enough, and a gem - saddle working loose on saddle rails .....
My latest creak was the chain-ring bolts not being tight enough. Has Halfords install a new chain-ring for me and it seems they didn't do the job properly. I took it back to find out they didn't even have the tool to hold the back cap! Did it myself... I'm mentioning this because mine only creaked when I pedaled not when I bounced. It was a full suss by the way.
Hope you get sorted, I understand the pain. If you can't find it wear your walkman.
had creaking issues with my bb. i put ptfe tape( plumbers tape) on the threads. creaking gone 🙂
I had this on my touring bike and reassembled virtually every bit on a three week trip across France, to no avail. Just as you describe, only under peddling pressure. Drove me and my mates bonkers. Only when I got home and rode another bike did it become obvious it was the knackered SPD plates on my shoes.

Surely that is a 2 minute job at home?
If its a five then I'd try the QR, I tried the BB, replaced the bearings, tightened everything still there one day when ranting about it on a climb my mate suggested the QR a tiny dab or grease tightened it up =stealth Five ( well as silent as one can be!!! 🙂 )
Just fixed creaking on my road bike, not sure of the source still but disassembled, cleaned and greased all touching components at the head tube / fork and re tightened and gone:-) it SO good when you finally get shot. It had been a year of creaking!
I took it back to find out they didn't even have the tool to hold the back cap!
To be fair, a flat bladed screwdriver will do the job just fine. I suspect a lot of LBS don't bother with the "correct" tool for it. It just doesn't need a special tool at all.
hey its the quick release skewer more often than not...get it greased......my five did the same thing a while back..seems to do it more when the weather and the trails a bone dry...strange things these creaking noises..yep ****ing annoying...but do the skewer thing..imo
Grease and lube everything that should move and tighten everything that shouldn't.
I had a creak but only when under load, narrowed it down to seat rails, bottom bracket or stem but turned out to be my spd pedals, swapped them out for a spare pair and no more noise.Had a look at them and they spin fine no signs of wear etc so not sure why but nice to have got rid of the annoying noise.
