Hi,
I'm looking to get a bolt on seat clamp for a friends bike. The seatpost size is 27mm, so what size seat clamp should I get?
(Choices are 28.6, 30.0. 31.8)
The bike is a 2003 Kona Lana'i.
Thanks,
T
It depends on the bike, not the seatpost size..... Only way to be sure is check the Kona website or meausure it. (Or take the bike to the shop with you)
Generally 31.8 on an ally frame
Just happen to have a nice hope one for sale here
Mr Poddy speaks a lot of sense.
If you find out what size it is drop me an email and I might have an old one lying about you can have
If it's a steel Kona frame, chances are it's 28.6 (technically I think it's supposed to be 28.8 but 28.6 works). PP's right though, just take it to the LBS or ask on konaworld.
Probably 31.8.
Try looking at the shims inside the front mech, they might tell you.

Be careful! Seat tubes are very often tapered or butted and a different diameter in those areas. My Yeti was, IIRC
A lot of older steel Konas are 30.0 (or 29.8)
Anyway, looks like Alu here:

If I had to bet I'd say 31.8
My DMR is 28.6 (26.8mm seatpost), my on-one is 29.8mm (27.2mm seatpost)
Its the frame not the seatpost size as others have said
My steel Genesis bikes have 27.2 mm seatposts and 29.8mm seat clamps.
Thanks for the advice all. (Sorry about the delay in replying - was at work).
Further your collective advice, I'm gonna measure the frame at the weekend.
27mm is also an odd seatpost size, 27.2mm is more the norm for a steel frame. Old steel frames (very old steel frames) might be 27mm but for a 2003 Kona I'd assume 27.2mm.
Clamp size as above, best to measure before buying completely the wrong size!
My P7 is 30.0! It's odd.

That's right, my old C16 was 30mm too, right PITA because the shim Orange supplied was useless. Only post I found that worked was a USE with the apparopriate shim, but that flexed like buggery!
