What's the general consensus on a good singlespeed gearing for commuting on road/path on a converted MTB with semi-slicks?
I was thinking 16/18 at the back with maybe 40T at the front?
Any suggestions?

I have a converted MTB with drop bars and SS (actually fixed at the moment) setup. 40t at the front (much bigger and it would start to gouge the chainstay) and 14t at the back - that gets me up some decent gradients too.
So 16t at the rear, could go 42t at front I'd say if for canalpath use.
