what are the options apart from running a front mech stuck in place?

not got tabs or anything. . . its smoothy carbon . . 29er hardtail racey looking affair, so needs to look svelte?

MRP 1x and E13 XCX both come in insanely expensive seat tube mounted versions

Superstar do a cheaper seat tube one but some reports are iffy.

Can you do a BB mounted one?

I'm using the superstar one and it's fine so far. I'm only using it on a road bike though so not sure how well it'd work on a mtb.

Hope seattube mounted for me with integrated bash ring, pricey but seems alot better than the superstar type I had before, no issue with mud clogging etc, looks swelte enough, well made and easy to setup

You can use the Bionicon one, I guess, if the seat tube ones don't suit.

I used the Superstar one... it was worth what i paid. I've not sold it after taking it off as i feel it would be insulting to charge someone for it.

Depends on your legs tbh! I've gone with 32 for balance, it's better at hills obviously and spinning like **** on descents can be fun. But maybe you can push a bigger gear (or rather, maybe you don't get miserable pushing a bigger gear!)

I found the Superstar ST mounted guide to be hugely frustrating to set up .... so much so I abandoned using it before taking the bike out. I replaced it with an MRP one.

If I needed ST mounted now I would be looking at the Pauls chain keeper.

Really? It's incredibly easy to set up. You have two, maybe three adjustments..

When i fitted with a Renthal Chainring and SLX cranks it was almost impossble to get right due to the thickness of the Ring and the way it sits on the arms. Mount on the outside and the chainguide rubs, mount on the inside and the chainline is miles out.

The worst bit is the fact that once you adjust it and tighten the grub screw if you try and then move it fractionally, the grub screw keeps going back in the indentation you've already made.. so finite adjustment is impossible.

Go with the Lil Chap. I'm running one with a 34T Middleburn Mono Hardcoat and it's doing everything I want it to.

Lil chap and ss ones are the same.If you drill out and re-tap the piddly grub screw and replace it with a larger bolt they are much betterer.
