Hello All,
I have recently started commuting to work (only about 3.5 miles each way), but want to buy a second bike for this and general distance riding (Trans-Pennine way, general out ad about fitness building, that sort of thing). I currently ride a Bfe, but it's a tad overkill for the work commute.
I could use the Bfe I suppose, but crucially, I want another bike 😀
There is too much choice out there though. Really want to be able to go faster than I can on the MTB and ability to cope with traffic better. There have been way too many close calls with wing mirrors on the Cotic.
My budget is around eight hundred, maximum. I have been looking at some single speeds (Paddy Wagon and Plug 2), the Cotic Roadrat, Simple (love the Cotic bikes) and the Cannondale Badboy. Anybody have any advice with regards to an all rounder type bike? Singlespeed, geared, road or hybrid / MTB leanings?
Sorry for all the questions and any words of wisdom from the Singletrack massive are appreciated. Perhaps a chance for some 'Look at my sweet ride' type photos too! 😆
If you like Cotics and can get hold of one, a Cotic X is a good compromise 'crosser for mountainbikers'. I love mine in the same role you're describing. It's capable of a lot more and gets ridden way more than I expected to the point of it being a bit embarrassing having other bikes sometimes... Sadly discontinued. 🙁
Pretty much any decent CX bike would do the job.
Roadrat should be ideal too, that's pretty much what it's meant for but I didn't want a flat bar.
I'm happy with 2x9 36-46 12/28 and Razes.
Thanks for the advice vincienup. Anyone have a Cotic X, medium for sale? 😀
Is the new Cotic Escapade a replacement, of sorts, for the X?
Does this look good for the price? I don't know much about road or Cx components.
