[#10632747]

a 100kg northern monkey whose line choice can be, um, direct.

My alpine 6 is currently shod with some Easton arc 30s which are awful - made of cheese with terrible brittle spokes. You only have to sneeze at the bleeding things and they end up bent.

The riding I do is technical gravity biased: a week in the alps or being punished at Ciclo Montana is my cup of tea. They don’t have to cope with landing anything from above, just a lifetime of fall-line line choices.

So what do I get them rebuilt with? I was hoping the Flow 3s would be up to the job, but seemingly they’ve gone down the light / cheap / strong flowchart and somehow chosen option 1 twice.

I'm 120Kg and although not into jumps or riding very big rocks, I did send a factory pair of 29" wheels quite bendy in the peak district.

Went with hand built EX511 on Hope Pro 4 hubs. So far they've lasted a year of all sorts of riding with only a slight (2mm possibly) wobble in the rear.

Having said that I've also got ARC40 rims on my 27.5+ hard tail and they've kept straight too.

My flow mk3 rear rim has begun to crack between the spoke holes, currently in talks with CRC about warranty

Been talking to Hope about the new Fortus rims, looks like they are what i need, Hope say they are being released as rim and wheel options tomorrow

DT Ex511 are likely the best choice here. They’re tried and tested and are great quality.

I’m not sure if they’ve got an even stronger ‘freeride’ rim - FR something?

That'll be the FR 560, monstrous things, you'll be fine with EX 511's assuming you have a decent wheelbuilder.

Liking the look of the fortus 26. Though the EX511 is probably the most sensible choice. Thanks.

I keep hearing good things about the EX511, I am heavier than you and have been running a set of Spank 345's for a over a year now and they have been faultless so far.
