[#11241975]

Hi all. New frame time and it comes with a Fox Float DPS Performance shock.

I have the option to upgrade to either the Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate or Fox Float DPX2 Fatory so the question is are the upgrades significantly better and if so which is best?

TIA.

Fox

Rockshox dont sell spare shafts, just a complete shock. So once its scored/scratched out of warranty RS are useless. RS I would say are generally easier to home service than Fox if thats a consideration for you.

How much is the upgrade from the DPS to the DPX2? (PS piggyback shocks are always cooler)

I brought a spare shaft for my Rockshox Debonair rear shock from J Tech for £40.00 a couple of years ago.

Might not be applicable and it doesn't seem to adversely affect the performance but the DPX on my Occam needs a crazy amount of pressure. It's rated to 350psi and I'm currently running 320 in it which is not only a little bit scary to do but I discovered that all my shock pumps only go to 300.!! Had to get a new one and ones that go over 300 are a bit tricky to find. There's a BETO one, the newer Topeak DXR pump goes to 360 and a Rockshox workshop one that goes to 600 but that's about it.!!

As I said though it would depend on your suspension geometry and weight.

Thanks all. I usually prefer Fox so might stick, especially if there's not a huge difference in performance. Piggy Backs are ace but might be overkill and money I don't need to spend....

Not sure what the float dps has but the dpx2 factory should have a 3 pos lever, LSC in open mode and LSR.

Depends on the bike.

I have the DPS Performance on a 110mm rear bike and don't need for anything else.

For 130mm+ I'd consider the DPX though, I find that the more travel you have, the more it shows up a shock's shortcomings.

what does your current shock not do that you feel the need for an upgrade? What bike is it?

workshop one that goes to 600 but that’s about it.!!

A friend has a Trigger with the extending shock. I recall the pump goes to something crazy like 600-700psi.

Go Fox because Kashima.

Thanks all. It's on a new Orange Stage 5 so 135mm rear travel.

I’ve got a 2020 stage 5 with dpx2, and am not over the moon with the shock. Running fox 36 fit4 with Vorsprung fractive on the front seriously shows the shock up. I’m 76kg and ride lots of peaks rocks.

I’d look to get the delux and have it tractive tuned by TF if I were to choose again.

Brilliant bike though. You’ll enjoy it I’m sure.

Occam is 140mm and the Factory DPX it came with seems good so far apart from the scary pressure.! Put a bigger spacer in to ramp it up a wee bit at the end of the stroke.  Couple of weeks of fiddling with LSR and LSC and it feels really quite good now.  Old bike was a CC DBAir CS if that tells you anything about my sense of how good a shock is.  The DBAir to longer to set up but was excellent, DPX feels as good with less rabbit holes to go down with all the adjustments.!

So my DPS is on a Stage 4, which as I said is fine - but I just want it to take the edge off really.

The longer-travel Oranges are very sensitive to shock set-up and the Stage 6 really seems to benefit from an X2 - but I dunno if that's an option for you?

If you're not the type to fret about having the best possible shock, then maybe stick with the DPS.

The X2 is an option but with the Factory Fox forks it would cost too much.

The forks I had planned to use are 36 Fit4's that I have on my HT so interesting that they out perform the X2.

So I guess that's the next question, would 2020 Pike Ultimates be as good as my 36 Fit4's (which are ace and miles better than my old 2014 Pikes).

I should be clear - the fit4 forks only outperform the rear now I’ve added the fractive piston. It’s night and day difference to the original 3-pos compression damper.

Prior to the fractive piston the forks and dpx2 were reasonably matched (I.e good but not great)
