Hello, building up a commuter with the following 9 speed transmission:
Road compact double 50/34
MTB cassette 11-34
Will I be OK with a mid cage mech?

MTB medium cage should be fine.

Most mechs can work above capacity, but the specified total capacity of a shimano MTB GS mech is around 33t (assuming you are using MTB mech to suit 34t cassette). Personally I would go for an 11-28 cassette as I wouldn't have thought you would need such a low 34t to 34t ratio on a commute - but could be stood corrected on that one

Yeah, I'm thinking med cage will just about do it.
I want the bigger range as I have to tow a trailer full of tools, and I'm weak 🙂
