[#4739763]

I look at the fishing reel on the other thread and think, wow....I have no idea what it is and what is does but I want to make one. I've had the urge for the last 18 months to start making or doing something. I work in a job that means I don't produce anything tangible so I'm looking for an outlet.

So what can I pick up as a hobby? I don't have much room in the shed, certainly not enough for a lathe or big work bench, but I'd love to do something with wood ๐Ÿ™„ Any ideas?

build a bigger shed

That has crossed my mind I'm thinking of putting a cedar shingle roof on it.

Building a camper van is surprisingly satisfying. 6mths in so far (not non-stop I hasten to add!) and have taught myself a lot of stuff. Doesn't ft in my shed.

Bit to close to what's do for living. Don't want to do any thinking, just doing.

Carve a walking stick head. I know someone who sells them and they are amazing. His black grouse is as real. Done out of rhododendron.

A mate of mine has the super star destroyer (and the older star destroyer kit, which is way cooler tbh). If you're going to be a nerd, you might as well be a nerd with a gigantic awesome lego star destroyer.

Come down to Lyme Regis and do a short course at the Boat Building Academy. Great location, excellent atmosphere and woodwork to boot. Then go home and build yourself a BIG shed. Or jack your job in and come and do the long course (38 weeks boatbuilding). Keeps my kids in shoes! ๐Ÿ™‚

I felt similar to you and decided to give making watch straps a go. Lots to research and quite cheap to start up when most likely I get bored of it...

Motivforz I like your thinking. Some quality things there. I've just taken down a metal curtain rail from the bedroom which I intend making into a tool ril for the shed ala your kitchen rail. Nice ideas.
