Hey guys,
Im pretty new to the mountain bike world but im already hooked on the thrill and adrenaline rush you get from it.
I was wondering why you guys think mountain biking is such a great sport?
For me its the perfect combination between: enjoyment of the great outdoors, physical challenge/fitness etc, technical challenge, and the adrenaline rush of speed and jumps etc.
Plus also, if I'm honest, I love the gear geekery and buying stuff aspect too. 😛
Because it make me smile 😉 That is more than enough...
The feeling of being out in the open for me is fantastic, I am from the city so its nice to get out into the countryside. The scenery.. Also I love a challenge theres nothing better than sitting on your saddle gritting your teeth and pumping away at the pedals thinking to yourself "**** me how long is this climb going to last" but not quitting! And not to mention flying back down the hill 🙂
I am new too and cant get enough of this sh*t LOL
because you test yourself in lots of different ways, improve loads of different parts of your ability from endurance to reactions, all while getting fresh air and travelling bigger distances than most other outdoor pursuits, so seeing the world!
I just like wearing tight lycra and shoving a pair of socks down the front of my shorts. I haven't even got a bike. I just like walking around like that
I actually love being out at night more than anything. When you're up at the top of Rivi in the dark, looking out over all the lights towards Manchester, with the reflections in the resevoirs, I always feel you're being treated to something a tiny population of the country will actually ever bother to see
Those lights are all from the houses of people who are doubtless slumped in front of their telly's watching utter tripe and shovelling microwave meals into their gobs. Meanwhile you're taking in the magnificent view, having a quick well-deserved swig from your hipflask, before going hooning down the Belmont descent
Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling. Well.... especially if its a decent whisky in the hipflask 🙂
It's great to find a form of exercise that you enjoy!
It's great to be able to scare the sh*t out of yourself at times!
It's great in the boggy winter months, it's great in the dry summer months (when we get them! 😆 )
You control the challenges you set yourself (sometimes)
It's often educational, from learning about bike repairs, to first aid or indeed the countryside.
There aren't many negatives, apart from being hit by a car trying to get to the hills (got a nice new bike out of though!) and the ever increasing prices 👿
Just being outdoors and getting away from it all...
And the fun factor, havn't found anything to beat it ! 🙂
Meeting lycra clad strangers in darkened forest car parks does it for me.
Most of the above, for me. But also, once you're all growed up, socialising tends to happen in the pub, getting mildly pissed. Or very pissed. Going for a ride gives the opportunity to get together and hang out with your pals in a non-booze-soaked environment.
What I'm trying to say is that it's a social activity (but I fear it just sounds like I'm an alky 😕 )
views, people & sharing, excitement, risk, challenge, exhaustion, discovery, endorphins :o)
People; I love you guys!
Technical; boys love toys
Fitness; I don't notice the uphills, but love the downs
for me it's the combination of nature/ bit of fitness/ freedom/ feeling like a kid
user-removed; i agree most of my mates i only see at the pub.
