Need to buy Mrs fb an ebike. To be used for french touring holidays and other local rides, and we live in a very hilly area. Looking at Ribble, Cube.... any experience with these or others to consider? Ideal Budget around £2k. (Looking for reliability as well, My mate has replaced his motor on his Specialized 4 times!). Thanks

we bought a Whyte because the Whyte dealer is round the corner and I have a good relationship with them.

Based on the article 36% of ebike fail, we have had a few bits stop, but because they are close its easy to take it back

What ballpark reach and stack does your lady require?

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/electrical-assistance-road-bike-e-edr-af-105-2x11s-red/_/R-p-335142 starts from 375mm reach with 100mm stem and 524mm stack in XS.

I've been looking at the large (and now OOS medium) for at least two weeks for myself, given my Cube Attain is 388/610 and I now often run with a -30 degree 120mm Deda adjustable stem under some/all the spacers.

We bought my other half a Whyte Highgate in 2023. She's very pleased with it. It was one of the lighter options which was important to us and it was equipped with mudguards and a rear rack which were useful too. I think the equivalent now is the Rheo.

I would only buy an ebike from local bike shop.

What's your LBS got?

I bought my Mrs an Islabike eJimni. Sadly defunct now. Very light, rear hub drive, and easy step through frame. No suspension though.

Partner has a Giant Amite (or something like that). 4,000 + Kms and never missed a beat, unlike here Giant Trance that has had a motor, wiring loom etc (all under warranty). Point is, that road bikes are far more reliable than mountain bikes, so I'd not be too concerned about the brand or the motor.

Hth

Not that it's likely to apply to ladies, but I ended up ringing Decathlon yesterday, to confirm their spec "max load" figure exludes the supplied bike weight... Which it does.

At 110Kg max load for the Van Rysel road ebike range, which weighs ~14Kg itself and me being 95Kg on a good day recently, not having to include the bike weight makes the world of difference!
