Hi,
So I bought a single-speed to scoot around town on and took off the rear wheel, without really looking.
Now I've come to put it back on, I've noticed on one side it's missing the regular metal nut, but there is this weird plastic one.
It doesn't feel very secure, can someone explain how to attach it correctly?

its the wrong way round.
Looks like it should be fitted the other way around, so it slots into the drop out and then the allen key bit (which should be inline with the frame) is used to tension the chain before the wheel nut is tightened to hold it all in place.
take it off, flip it over. the but sticking outboard should be in the dropout/slot and the radiused part is your chain tensioner that contacts the rear of the dropouts.
When fitted correctly it pushes your axle rearwards to tension the chain, and stop the wheel slipping forwards.
