fork crown race

Picked up these forks on eBay ages ago, and I'd really like to use them. No idea what they were originally for.

By the looks/measurement of it, it's a straight steerer with an integrated crown race. But the crown race is a lot deeper than I'd expect for a standard headset (~6.8mm). I think most bearings would just sit on the top and leave a massive gap underneath, because even the deeper bearings have the same depth of race interface. Does anyone have any suggestions for an appropriate headset?

Ignore the straight bit of steerer, what’s the diameter across the widest bit at the very bottom, where it meets the crown?

It tapers from 28.6mm to 38mm. The flat section has a diameter of 49mm

Sounds like the crown race (that’s possibly missing) would take a pretty standard sized 40mm internal diameter headset bearing. So big bearing at bottom, small bearing at top… ie a tapered headset of some kind.

Yeah, I thought that at first, but there's nothing for a race to hold onto, and it's angled at 36°.

That fork has the crown race built in.

What bike did the forks come from?

No idea. Picked them up because they were interesting. ~400mm axle-crown, flat mount, qr, internal dynamo cable routing and crown mounting inserts, if anyone has any clues.

it’s angled at 36°

Pop a 36 int angle bearing on there and see if it fits then. OD & ext angle will depend on the cup/headtube.
