[#1705922]

Recently bought myself a new 5 Spot, and I'm lovin' it !

Time to squeeze some grease into the bushings though. I already have the recommended Manitou grease, and a Manitou grease gun. Problem is that this grease gun has a very short nozzle.
CRC seem to do a Turner specific one, with a longer and curved nozzle. Over £40 though !! Don't want to pay that when I only need the nozzle.

Any ideas ?
Where to get a longer nozzle or different gun ?

Cheers

The Turner grease gun looks very much like a re-badged Dualco unit. http://www.dualco-inc.com/images/Squeeze%20Tube%20Grease%20Guns%20Catalog.pdf

Billys have this one http://www.billys.co.uk/english/group.php?prod=2dul-mininoz but you'll have to bend the tip yourself!

I'll be after one myself pretty soon- if I ever get the 5spot build finished... 🙁

i have been looking into this myself.

stupid question time - how do you get the grease from the squeezy tube into the grease gun? do you need a screwable tube suited to the mini grease gun?

flipinheckler - how do you lube/grease the difficult zerk fitting or do you have an adaptor?

Which difficult one are you talking about? The one behind the shock? Even with the bent nozzle gun it's hard to get that one so I just whip the upper shock bolts off. A few minutes job.

Thanks for the replies. Will get one of those extra long nozzles from Billies. Cheers.

giantjason, That's right.... you buy grease in a squeezable tube, with a threaded top. Think a bit like a tube of toothpaste. This screws into the grease gun. The idea is that you then just pump it out of the gun as needed, although I find that it sometimes needs purging... Squeeze the tube whilst pumping !

Also, beware of tearing the tube just below the threaded section. I did that once when being a bit heavy handed.

Most of the bike specific greases seem to use the same size thread. IME anyway.

ChunkyMTB... that's the tricky one I had in mind. WIll investigate. Maybe a "custom" bent nozzle would work ?
If not, then I guess it will be off with the shock every so often. S'pose I can check it is all nice and smooth still that way too.

yes chunkymtb the one behind the shock/chain stay bridge.

stanley - thats what i thought although in the pics it appears that the two threaded sizes dont match up. must just be the scale.

Would those extra long needles from Billies fit a standard mini grease gun?

The Maitou grease gun gun has the correct size nozzle to fit the zerk to apply the grease the tube of grease has a nozzle you cut down and a thread that fits the gun, should be simples!

My friends DW 5spot has different style zerks and a different grease gun from those dualco ones. It looks like the nozzle is different to me.

Whilst we are on the subject.....

Just doing a check over of my new 5 spot after about 15 hrs of riding. Checked all the bolts over with a torque wrench and whilst correctly torqued the clevis bolt and bushing has a bit of play in it. Not a lot but I can clunk it side to side with my fingers (about a 1/4 mm) and I could get a bit of paper between the yellow bit of the journal bearing and the the aluminium. You think there is a problem?

There was an mtbr thread about this. Its not normal. Contact turner or sand off the offending length was the advice of DT.
