Hi everyone, I've snapped the fragile cage of my SRAM Red front derailleur...it's this one...

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sram/red-front-derailleur-braze-on-ec017918#BVRRWidgetID

They're pretty weak although mine has lasted a couple of years.

I'm looking for a replacement derailleur and the reason I chose this particular model is because I have a 55/39 chain ring combo which is a pretty wide gap (if that makes sense!?), the derailleur has two screw holes allowing the height to be adjusted at the braze on and the cage is fairly long.

Problem for me is I would like a more rugged cage but can take this chain ring combination which I do not want to change. I'm running Campag 16 speed '96 era. I would also like derailleur to be cheaper ideally.

Can anyone help....please?

Would a SRAM Rival with clamp-band do for you, or is that too low end/unsuitable? I got sent one in error a few days ago and am debating whether I can be bothered sending it back.

Brand-new, and it will cost you a lot less than you can find it online, I imagine.

Thanks for the offer but it has to be braze on and preferably one I can get either this evening or tomorrow morning. I'm close to Evans Gatwick so it'd hopefully be one they have in stock. I don't mind if it's low end so long as it can work on the 55/39 chainring combo. The problem I have had in the past....with a Centaur triple derailleur is it rubbed against the large chainring. It only had one screw for the braze-on

53/39 is a pretty standard front ring setup on road bikes so most braze on front mechs ought to do the job.

Those two extra teeth seem to make quite a bit of difference I think

Just get either the Sram Force or Rival version, they have a steel cage rather than the flexible breaky ti one the Red comes with. A lot of Pro bikes come with a custom steel cage on their Red mechs for this very reason.

Since the shimano ones all work up to 56 teeth rings, I would imagine that any sram braze on one would work fine.

Blazin-saddles +1

Sounds like a horrendous mismatch of parts though!

If you're using 8spd Campag, just buy a Centaur braze on mech.
