i have a dirty disco with flat bars, with 10sp 105 2x10, xt brakes and some lovely lightweight stans wheels. i have some cheapo flatbar shifters to make it work.
i would like to replace it with something that can cope with 40c tyres at least and has mudguard and rack mounts. the wheels are qr disk. i think they might convert to thru axle, but im not 100% sure.
Is there a frame which doesnt cost a fortune, which allows wideish tyres which is normal disk qr dropout which will do so i can swap my bits over, or should i get rid of it and just buy a cheapie hybrid, or a rigid 29er even? this is the bike for riding to work, and going for nice spins in the countryside with the missus on her roadrat, and maybe take in a bridleway or too, so will have fast rolling tyres, but nice and wide so my poor old back doesnt get beaten up quite so much. i dont mind steel or ally.
Cotic roadrat, or Escapade? I've just built up a SSCX around an Escapade frame (bought used from here, think it's a 2017 model). Manages 40c tyres (although mine come up a bit narrower) and I've got mudguards on the way.
What hubs do you have? If they can be converted I would go down that route. Opens up a lot more options for you.
See if you can find a s/h Planet X Full Monty
