When I built my 120mm stumpjumper up a few years ago I just put some cheap u-turn Recons on it to get it riding. They were actually OK so I never quite got round to putting anything better on. Having had a play on a big boys bike on holiday and liking the way it just soaked up everything it was pointed at in a way my bike doesn't I'm thinking it might be a good time to fit something better. Basically I want to be able to do the cross country riding I do now but have something that can handle something a bit techier on the downs. I think the term is skills compensator.

The bike handles well with the current forks set at 135mm but climbs noticeably better with them wound down a little. I'm thinking a little more travel would nice but then I would still want some travel adjustment.

What's good out there? Do Fox still need a lot of looking after? I've generally gone with Marzocchi or Rockshox but happy to consider others. Second hand is probably likely as I don't want to spend that much. Are Revelations a good option?

from what i can gather Fox's will always need a lot of looking after
i'd be tempted to say look at marzocchi but without spending a fortune you wont get anything with the adjustable travel you require.
go for rockshox. the revelations are good and if you are looking to spend big then you cant go wrong with a pair of new pikes.

are you looking to buy brand new or second hand? whats your budget? steerer size? axle size?

Straight 1 1/8" steerer, about 185mm. Currently QR but happy to switch to 15/20mm. Probably second hand so I suppose the question is what was good a couple of years ago, although an On-one/Merlin/etc deal on new might be good. Certainly can't justify a big spend.

Hi Nick...
I have a pair of 130mm travel Marzocchi Z1 sports, from 2005 for sale. They have an ETA travel adjust function which locks the fork down to shorter travel for climbs.

20mm thru axle, in black and good condition with a few scrapes etc. Stantions are mint.
They have the Speed Sensitive valving from the posher forks too.

They are very reliable, and have only had 20 or so rides in their time with me (from new), as they were on the winter SS bike. 1-1/8th steerer.

I can get some pic's later if you're interested. They simply sitting in the spares box right now, and have been for a while.

Mail in profile if you're interested.

OP - if you're looking at second hand then the ones lardmans selling would be the ones to go for. i had a pair of 150mm Z1 sport rv and they were brilliant. i had a pair of z1 drop offs too which had the ETA and it makes a big difference on the climbs!!

Old U-turn Pikes FTW.

20mm axle though. Or U-turn revs, or Sektors.....
