What electronic (gps, hrm, watch, bike computer etc) gizmo do you use for training on the bike?
Do you find it useful? Do you recommend it? if so what make/model?
Thanks
HRM
Bike Computer
Yes, I like to be able to see how far/fast/slow i'm going/have been.
I find the HRM vital for ensuring I'm working at the correct effort for what I'm trying to acheive.
Don't forget to mention what make/model you're using ๐
MP3 player
Yes
Yes
HRM = Cateye CS300CAD (has bike functions too)
Bike Computer = Cateye STrada wireless & VDO wireless.
Bike computer on all my road bikes. Always used to have one on the MTBs as well but kind of got used to riding without after a while. I hate riding road without a computer though.
I'll use a Garmin Edge 305 GPS if I'm doing route maps, races or events like the Merida (off-road) or during Sportives (on-road), I like the extra info.
Garmin Edge 705 for recording all rides but each of my bikes also has its own computer to record mileage for maintenance purposes.
Rampant Rabbits...I have them littered around the bike storage area and have them set to go off whenever I enter the room...makes sure I leave with the only thing not vibrating!
SRM power cranks, pretty high end, but for matching training zones to actual effort training with power can't be beaten. (this is mostly a dark side requirement however).
Not on the bike, but off the bike I used an Compex mi-sport EMS.

i have a watch. it tells me when i need to come home.
An Electrolux fridge with some beer in it.
I've used the Virtual Partner on my Garmin Edge 205 occasionally; I think it's sadistic, I've ended up utterly shattered every time I've tried to beat it. How does that work?!
PS2 - MX Vs ATV

sorry you are right - though that is a basic post excercise warm down rather than a training aid
I use a Garmin Forerunner 405, and I love it.

[/img]It's a watch, has GPS, heart rate monitor, cadence monitor (optional), foot pod (optional), and a ton of excellent features. Although I haven't yet written a full review of this product yet, a summary can be seen at http://www.bikesr4riding.com/2009/01/03/new-toys-garmin-forerunner-405
There's some pretty nifty software you can load onto your PC, or upload online using Garmin's Connect service. Here's an example of one of my commutes, including Google map, heart rate details, etc, http://connect.garmin.com/activity/1889681. Whao, slow ride home that day. Normally takes 56 minutes or so...

we need your cadence and bpm for around the 14minutes mark it was either a long red light or a short y@nk
How come it starts at -34m?
some expensive kit on here, i think a top of the range electrolux fridge filled with beer might be the most $$$, but do you drag it or carry it?
i'm currently using a tchibo cycle computer! so one of these garmin devices, 305/705 perhaps looks like it does what i need
I use the TV there is so much crap on you have to go out for a ride.

Good spot. They're a bit funny like that. Once you get going it tends to get more accurate. But it does look a bit sporadic, you're right.

I remember what happened, it's all coming back to me now. Basically, I normally ride in with a mate, and ocassionally we ride home together. This evening, I stopped to wait for him at our normal meeting point, but he'd already gone on ahead of me, hence the extended wait whilst I phoned him to find out. Also explains the longer ride time which includes the wait...
I haven't got round to buying the cadence monitor, but the heart rate info is there on another tab of the Gsrmin Connect page.
Thanks
