Mine was a bit under 26lb when i built it to start with but its now a nats chuff under 22lb i swapped the superstar wheels for hope evo crests the tyres from on one heavy things to nobby nics and got rid of heavy tubes. Still heavier than i would have guessed at for carbon frame and fork tbh

My wheels are something like 1850g the pair - this feels pretty heavy to me as my first 29 set.

Cant remember what the hope wheels weighed but it was more than quoted and not much lighter than superstar set. Big weight savings for me were tyres and tubes.

Oh and i swapped deore cassette for xt but that was for hope freehub protection rather than weight ad rest of stuff is reassuringly heavy deore too 😉

A hell of a lot more than the suspended geared one. It was a lot cheaper though.
I'd guess about 28lb.

About 22lbs, I can go lighter but then (to quote the late great Steve Worland) it turns into a spastic Bambi, thinking about it I should also quote that on the deft to heft thread 😉

Cheers.

Smudge under 18lbs..it was lighter but then I got a lust for finishing a ti bike with ti bits rather than carbon and a brooks saddle...just because, even if it did add about 200g straight away. pimp wheels help and stupidlt light cranks etc.

btw the 5 was hardly heavy framed.....

steel frames are hardly light ...

heavy wheels and tires will always be heavy wheels and tires , two of the easiest places to save weight.

20.3lbs should be able to get it lighter by taking the tubes out.

So my wheels must be pretty hefty at 1850g then? No idea how much weight the extra 3" typically adds. I think my tires are some light racy jobs but they currently have tubes. I reckon I'll save a lb or so when I go tubeless.

The bars I just put on are 300g - back in the day I'd ahve 120g carbon bars on. However I still have my carbon seatpost and saddle, and it's XTR, so it's hardly a heavy build.

I guess your 20lb ones are all carbon XC race machines...

I think my SIR.9 is about 25lbs with it's 29+ front end.

Some on MTBR claim to have their SIR.9's down to below 20lb but they must live near helium gas plants.

Stooge (bathroom scales method): 10.3kg = 22.8lbs inc. pedals.

Build is: SS, Crests with 2.3 Spesh tyres tubeless, ti post, light saddle, short stem, wide bars, SLX cranks with a Goldtec OneKey wonky ring.

Intending to go 29+ on the front + a dropper soon so it will get a tad more portly.

No useless geary cack on mine. Only useful gears.

I'd suggest that your 27lb could be someone else's 23lb unless you are using the same set of scales.

Sounds about right though. That's not a lightweight frameset.

Yeah I am only using some cheap fish scales, that may over-read.

Tubeless will shed some.

Of course, how else would the fishmonger make a margin?

I'm using my bathroom scales, so they probably under-read.

They are for fishermen to weigh their catch, so I'm sure they wildly over-read, for the same reason bathroom scales under-read 🙂

Blame that ^ boy tazzy for the silly forks.

I love that bike. It's my only mtb for the moment and is great round the malverns here.

Always humbling when people quote weight of a 29er that is less than my 'road' bike...

Just built a rigid geared inbred 29er on the cheap, comes in at 29lbs. XL frame and steel steerer though. Rides nicely so I don't mind. Interestingly, it comes in at almost exactly the same weight as my 26er inbred with 130mm fork!
