For the first time in what seems like ages I did my usual Saturday morning ride in nice sunlight and on largely frozen trails. So much more fun that slopping around in deep mud with it pissing down.

Even a very unexpected trip over the bars couldn't detract from it. It was one of those instant over the bars jobs that left me wondering what on earth the front wheel had hit. I had a look and just to the left of the little slot I was trying to ride through there was a remnant of a long dead sapling. It was there, sticking up out of the ground like a hand about to do a karate chop. It's a bit if trail I only discovered a few weeks ago, so have only ridden it four or five times. I must have hit it end on, absolutely flush as it stopped the front wheel instantly and dumped me on the ground before I could even swear. Thankfully the only damage is a slightly swollen hand at the base of my thumb and a minor dead leg.

Anyhow, I hope some of you lot managed to get out and ride in the best conditions we can hope for in the UK in the autumn/winter.

Sounds good, unfortunately no bikey for me as resting up with throat infection.

Gonna make up for it mind when the time arises.

Nice early start before 8. Frosty down in Surrey, but not cold enough to freeze the mud. Luckily it was cold enough to justify a quick tea stop on Box Hill.

Started riding just as the sun came up with the temp at about -2*.
Clear skies, very hard frost for about four days now, boilerplate ice and snow snow on the ground.......ace ๐Ÿ™‚

This is near the top of Bennachie.

2nd Saturday in a row like that here in Huddersfield, but I haven't been out on either! Hoping to go out tomorrow morning, fingers crossed the weather is the same as it was today.

Apparently there's a foot of snow on the top of Holme Moss / Black Hill!

2nd Saturday in a row here too(Wakefield).
Is it just me or does anyone else find it extremely satisfiying being the first to smash through the ice on a puddle?

Went out of my way to crunch every frozen puddle I could find!

The most satisfying was the frozen bog just after a corner we know as Dexter's after one of our riding group who binned it fairly spectacularly there on one of our first evening rides about 18 months ago. Straightened up quickly out of the corner to pop the front wheel up. Hit the iced over deep rut with the back wheel and sprung up and out again in a shower of ice and water. I'm 37, but stuff like that still makes me titter to myself.

Some really nice pics there people !

Had a decent part mud, part ice ride in the forest. Beautiful bright day.
Big bolognese and a glass or two of red with me feet up tonight, not forecast to be so nice tomorrow, but hopefully going out.

I had to stay in because, for the third day in a row I was waiting for DX Secure to deliver a parcel promised on Thursday. I had had all sorts of excuses

" tried to deliver on Thursday but you weren't in"

er, no, I was in all day.

"oh, sorry, actually the van broke down on Thursday so we couldn't get to you. it will definitely be with you on Friday by 6pm"

So why tell me you tried to deliver it then. Anyway at 5.00 pm I phoned to check it really was coming
"Oh, sorry, just checked with the driver and he still had 56 packages so won't get to you today."

Put a compliant in on Facebook, got a reply within minutes. The upshot was. I had and "absolute guarantee it will arrive by 1pm Saturday"

The poor driver got to me eventually, was way out of normal area and when I explained the issues, he said that the package had no marks on to suggest it had left the depot before today, that there had been no local deliveries for the past couple of days.

Moral of the tale, if you want something done, complain on social media in a polite but firm way

And relax..

. So no, no biking for me this morning and it was lovely out on the Malvern hills

Weird ride today, we went through loads of different kinds of weather. At the start was hail, then low cloud, then snow, then high winds, then really calm frozen trails, then a bit of rain. All in an hour and a half and about 800 feet. We did a climb where we had to get off because the trail was under an inch of transparent ice, and just after the highest point the trail was frozen sand in still conditions. Really beautiful!

Very nice photos. Much prefer icy ground to the mud. There are a few sandy trails I ride when its icy as they are perfect now vs unrideable in the summer
