Close to pulling the trigger on a new cotic soul frame to replace a 456 SS. Can't make my mind up on which colour to go for.
Orange: Like this colour a lot. However, minus points are it's a bit flash looking and the wife's going to immediately identify this as a "new bike"
Black: classic and understated, would go with the black rev's that I have on the SS and could probably be switched over unnoticed by the other half.
Not seen many pictures of the new black frames built up - anybody like to post up a picture of theirs ?
Black .... 'cos everyone knows that black makes you look slimmer 😀
Yep the orange is a great colour but I can empathise with the wife issue. A change of fork colour from black to white can be got away with (unless she reads this thread of course) but a new bright orange bike in the garage is much harder to pass off as a 'figment of your imagination dear'!
Orange makes it look like you are riding an Orange, i went for black...
they do have the nicest orange colour in the business, just tell her you painted the old one?
Hmm - that orange one does look good. Anybody got a pic of a black one built up?
Black with grey decals for me..

Amazing, no one has mentioned the vegetation between the paving on letmetalktomark's picture yet.
I'd get an orange one if I was getting a Soul.
Aoplogies in advance for the thread hijack.
So I have a 2nd hand Soul frame in the shed that I fancy getting re-srayed, and I have a couple of questions ?
1. Can I send the frame to Cotic for a re-sray (obviously for a charge), or do I just do it myself locally ?
2. If Cotic won't do it, can I get a new set of decals and a new headbadge from them ? (The old ones are a bit worn and I fancy a change.)
Yes, I could email CY directly, but I thought someone might know already. TIA.
BTW, I'm going for black with the wrap decal. It's not that I don't like the orange, but black is better, imo.
Get the orange one and keep it at mine. Can't always promise it'll be there when you come to ride it, but hey, at least the wife'll never find out 🙂
Even it being my birthday could stop the flaming from the wife when the new orange Soul turned up...
The dog-house is fleeting, a new frame is forever (well almost)
New Hope Hoops went totally un-noticed.
it's a bit flash looking and the wife's going to immediately identify this as a "new bike"
didn't want Mrs Skip to know. When i got it built, she just thought i'd given it a very good clean!!
Whats it like to be married to dim women ? 😉
get the orange but lie about the price simples.

😆 😆 😆
I think it did get a mention first time around 😳
Looking better now and fence has been coated too 😉
ORANGE!
Orange.

No, frames are now painted in Taiwan, so you'll have to arrange your own respray. I've used Bob Jackson, which is wet paint. Others have used local powder-coaters to good effect.
2. If Cotic won't do it, can I get a new set of decals and a new headbadge from them ? (The old ones are a bit worn and I fancy a change.)
Downtube decals are available, and probably headbadges as well. New toptube model decals aren't available as spares though. Email Paul to find out more : http://cotic.co.uk/contact
Argos Cycles in Bristol are also excellent and may be able to supply the decals themselves, or at least liaise with Cy to do it. They've done this for me with a Specialized frame.
Argos aren't cheap but their quality is very good.
Black - I think most of us would prefer to say we had a dark soul than a bright orange soul - unless you're a Berrocca freak!!
get orange
your wife will calm down eventually
To complicate matters further the wife actually thinks the 456 SS is hers. As she is fairly tall I decided I could get myself a 2nd bike under the pretence that it was for her, qualifying it with "it will be great to spend some time biking together"
She hasn't actually every ridden it, when we go out together she takes the full sus and I ride the 456. A 10 month old baby means that she is unlikely to be biking this winter. She dropped a bombshell a couple of weeks ago when she said she was thinking of selling her bike 😯 . At first I had no idea what she was talking about, I didn't realise she had a bike - it's not been mentioned since. I'm going to have to go for the black - orange is just too risky. I do think orange looks better and letmetalktomark's post nearly had me swayed but black it is.
chicken
Cheers for replies. I'll email Cotic about decals and see what the reply is.
Had similar dilemma and went for the black option. Wife never noticed a thing. I have found that providing you keep coulour schemes similar you can get away with regular new bikes and upgrades. Dont think its a question of having a dim wife, a far as some women (non riders) are concerned a bike is a bike and they all look alike.
You could do what I did.
Buy a cheap frame. (In my case an old Giant XTC).
Paint it a colour resembling your intended new frame.
(In my case green plasti-kote).
Buy new frame & stash away. (In my case delivered to work).
Sell re-painted frame off. (In my case Ebay, & for £20 more than I paid for it).
New bike appears. 😉
Looking at it from a different angle I'm not sure my riding skills (lack of) warrant an Orange bike. Similar analogy - I play five-a-side a couple of times a week and it wasn't easy finding a black pair of boots, however I felt my level ability did not justify a pair of bright red boots.
had two of them
this first

Great bikes. I don't think i'll ever be without one.
I like black bikes so I'd go with the black.
Orange is nice though...
Vortexracing - how does the bike handle with those 140 rev u-turns? Do you wind them down for most of your riding ? I've got fixed 130's and I plan to see how they are. However, I may be tempted to get some u-turns at some point so that I can run them at 110 or 120 for most riding but with the option of longer travel if needed.
Definitely decided to go with black.
Since you've got black forks, you need orange. If you had white forks then black.
What it is it with you lot, if I want something for the bike or a new frame then I buy it, I work hard, pay my half of the bills and what's left is mine, it's time you all grew a pair.
well said StuE
buy the colour you want, not what you think you can sneak past your wife
she'll thank you for the honesty
what's the worst that could happen 😉
