I'm after a bike for learning a few more trials skills on while my riding is limited to park pootles with my son (He's 4 and at early stages of riding so I think a "skills" bike will see a fair bit of use until I can get him out in to the woods). I'm kind of thinking of a small frame, rigid fork, singlespeed (Cant ride faster than my son does), with good brakes (which rules out a BMX I think - dont they have only rear brakes?).

I want to learn bunny hopping, endos, manualling, track stands, and maybe a few jumps on the local bmx track.

Should I be looking for an oldish trials bike (With sensible height saddle), or is there a Bmx that will suit my needs? Any suggestions welcome.

rigid is a really good idea if your wanting to learn tricks. i ride bmx and mtb, if you find bmx a little small maybe a 24inch jump bike? have a look at the dmr http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain/product/drone-reptoid-08-32037 they do it in 26" and 24", 24" is better for throwing about but not so good for long rides.

+1 I learned on a regular hardtail. There's a lot to learn before the bike limits you.
