Hello folks, I haven't been on here for a few years so I'm a bit out of touch. My girlfriend's son is 16 today and looking for his first MTB. What is the current recommendation for bikes around £400 ? The Decathlon thingy looks like super value but I can't find much info on the forks. He will mostly be riding Llandegla and the Clwyds.
Ta.

How tall is he? Got a 18 inch Cannondale for Sale £300 Recon forks, Swore Disc Brakes.
Some good bikes at Decathlon and the Carrera Kraken at Halfords is also good. Paul's cycles for a discounted 2014 bike.

He's about 5ft 9in. Second hand would be an option.

Suited my 5ft 9 missus but she gave up and I had it but it was too small for me.

+1 for a good used (Alu) Voodoo Wanga with Revs. Halfords had a sale on them a few yrs back so many bought 1k bike for £400, hence resale is sometimes not much over half the purchase price. Can be a fair bit less than yr budget leaving cash for riding kit. Be careful second hand if not viewing first though - mine (bought from eBay seller) came with a big ding in the frame, a deep rub in the forks and some well-worn running gear, none of which mentioned in the ad. Wangas seem to either get ragged to sh*t as stock, or well looked after and nicely upgraded brakes, wheels etc. IME.

Boardman Pros also come in well-priced used deals. Sometimes with nice upgrades.

Check out Radon, Bike-discounts in house brand I believe. This one would do the job at £376.

I must not skim read posts, I read that as your girlfriend turns 16 today...

A colleague just got one of these and he is very happy with it

There are also some very good deals at Pauls cycles at the moment.
