[#1052032]

Ok, I've done the passportes to bits and the whole Portes de soleil area to death (Have a mate lives there), and I've done the Mega a few times and I'm wondering what to do next year.

The wife allows me to have one week away from the family each year and I must admit I love the Alps, so not looking to go any further afield than this (plus money restricts things mightily).

I'm quite tempted by the Mega again, as it is quite addictive, but I think there must be other events going off all over the place. Has anyone any suggestions?

I'd prefer sugestions based on actual experience, but whatever you know is fine?

Ta,
Mark

There's mountain of hell at Les Deux Alpes, can't remember how far apart they are but quite a few people do both. I'd love to do the Mega again this year but I'm gonna go to the Alps with the missus this year.

Did this a few years back with Brooess and NikP. It was a good weekend but the "Free Bike" day made me realise just how xc jey I am!

Les Deux Alpes is a short drive from Alpe d'Huez.

Yeah sorry I was meaning in terms of time, think they are only a week or two apart from each other. Apparently Mountain of Hell is more pure DH than the Mega.

There's a great two day enduro with timed downhill sections in Sospel (search 'Zapiks Sospel' for videos)

Some other events here

I thought it had more climbing?

Done the mega for the past two years, and went over to les deux alpes for a day this year. To be honest I wasn't that impressed with the riding at les deux alpes. But then we were near the end of a two week trip so were getting hard to impress!

grand raid - 50-130km variations with a hell of a lot of climbing... and an awful lot of descending.

best event i've ever done.

The Trans-Provence looked amazing, so that's gotta be a consideration.

Or the Dialled Bikes Owners Week with TrailAddiction in Les Arcs. Not an event, just a chilled week of riding sweet Alpine trails.

I think the Mountain of Hell is usually the following weekend to the Mega, so if I include the Mega practice days this would take me over a week away, which is not allowed. I am quite tempted to beg the Mrs though as I've ridden and boarded at Les Deux Alpes.

I've Been going to the Alps about 10 years now and "just ridden" most years. I found that the Mega was good because its a lot of like minded people "in it together".

What kind of prices are you/trail addiction looking at Mike, and whats the dates?

No firm dates or prices yet, Mildred. Preferably as early as possible in the season so as not to eat into school/family holidays.

mike,

Just come off the batphone to Ash. We've been mulling this one over for years and finally decided to give it the green light for next summer:

We're going to organise a 2 day "enduro" style race out of Les Arcs/ Bourg St Maurice in conjunction with the local resort team. Likely mid to end of July.

Think all the best tA long singletrack descents.....minimal climbing in between (the usual good use of lifts) and professionally timing.

details to be thrashed out, but you know it'll be good ;0

you heard it here first folks!

Sounds ace. Maybe it could coincide with the Dialled Bikes Owners Week.
