Zerode Taniwha could be worth a look too, but only you can decide if it's too much bike.

If you read the Nicolai thread, a 61degree head angle, 170mm travel bike is perfect for everything, poppy and light handling and def not overbiked even for Cannock or towpaths.............. 🙄

The one above is 64.2-65.2 so not too extreme and one I would definitely ride if I was shopping for a dream bike.

I went with a Nicolai GPI 🙂 other than a few other niche brands I just can't believe there aren't more bikes out there with the Pinion gear box.

If your hardtail beats you up and you love the jeffsy, I would be tempted to sell the hard tail use that money to upgrade any bits on the jeffsy you don't like and then use the 6k to get a 29er hardtail that won't beat you up so much - some nice Ti Frame or a BMC teamelite.

Congrats by the way!
Doesn't have to be one bike - What about bikes for the Wife/Kids/Dog etc.?
The last guy got a FS and a CX bike IIRC.

I was thinking (if it was me...) I'd get a Transition for around £3k, and a CX bike, something for the kids and some Hope bits for my HT.

Olsen does some interesting stuff, semi-custom geometry etc.

6k is definitely in my dream-build budget. I wouldn't be speccing anything at the XX1 level or probably even carbon (except maybe a Robotbikeco frame).

I'd be looking at a custom UK builder like Swarf to make a full-sus 29er with coil shock.

In the STW tradition of recommending what you've got, I picked this up on Saturday after demoing lots of alternatives. It's absolutely mega...

I'd buy a Yeti, probably with deore for 6k 😉
Couldn't justify spending my own money on a frame costing that much.

Nice. Looks, how to I put this, a wee bit small judging by seatpost extension and stem length?

Also in the spirit of recommending what you have the Pivot 429sl is a great bit of kit that works well in a variety of environments.

Absolutely love mine, have had it more than a year and have no desire to change it (aside for possibly putting Eagle on it), but I can't quite be bothered with that.

I'm 6' and it's a large. Stem is 50mm, seatpost was "as assembled" and before it was set up for me. It may be the angle of the photo but it may also be because it does have a really low top tube.

Is that the Red Bull dream bike comp? In which case you'll be limited to its sponsors.

Aye fair enough, I think you're right the angle and the dropped TT gives an unfair impression.

Im guessing the South Coast suspension raffle, now non raffle prize draw thing...Fair play for winning, I stopped entering when it became a competition where there was no limit to the number of entries that could be sold. As to me it ruined the odds, but i still like hearign of what people who have one picked

My last two bikes have been an SC Tallboy CC and a Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon. Both were great bikes, but for UK riding, the SC wins out as the bearings are sealed that bit better (albeit, not perfectly!) for UK conditions. I love the ride on the Tallboy - it's a super fast bike - but the short travel does limit its abilities on extreme trail-center stuff. That said, for the riding I do in the dales, I think it might be the perfect bike (for me, anyway :-).

Would also like a Pivot 429SL, obviously with DI2, but I'd never use two very similar bikes, so I'd probably just buy a newer road bike instead.

I could have missed it, but I haven't seen you name the sort of riding you want to do with it?

£6k would certainly get me a dream build!

Are you limited to certain bikes/brands? Who's doing the comp/build?

I saw those being quite different, so was looking for more. Lots of fairly burly FS bikes being mentioned, but is that really necessary for most bridleway type trails?

they're not necessary for Chicksands or Woburn either*, so I think we are violently agreeing on some of the recommendations being too much bike.

* my regular/local haunts, and despite having an Alpine 160** I've usually taken the fat bike to woburn, or now the new 120/130mm FS.

** for sale due to lack of use

not astroturfing.

lucky bugger. Is the guy making money off these then?

I'd sell the jeffsy and get something similar. Bit of money in the bank for riding and a nice bike to ride.

Or just get a bike that you'd like but can't justify because of cost.

After entering the same competition I was considering this the other day, not sure I would go for 1 bike, for £6K you can get a new Orbea Rallon and an Orbea Terra, both the lower spec versions but still more than capable!

I'd get the exact frame, forks and wheels you want, you may not have much left afterwards.. then spec cheap parts up to the 6k value and upgrade from there out your own pocket .

That said, as long as you don't go silly on envy products, a 3k frame, 1k fork, will still leave 2 k for some very very nice parts.

I'm happy with my Alu suppressor. Nothing on it actually worth changing.

Nothing fancy or boutique on it.

Coil shock, mattoc forks, spank oozy wheels, saint brakes, xt 11sp drive train, spank stem and bar, reverb dropper with DeHy, time pedals and a range of tyres.

Judging by the amount of entries, yes and more.

He only needs 2000 entries/tickets to get the cash back (not Inc. any fees) - selling a 6k bike at rrp alone would be worth it, but with the added marketing value it's a bit of a genius move imo.

He started the comp/raffle small, win parts / forks etc and the prize has grown with the amount of entries.

Kind of my issue with it, as a raffle you knew the odds now it's a closed prize draw there is no need to disclose the number of enteries. Which meant you couldn't not quantify the odds. They are not allowed to run a raffle it would seem so had little choice but it was not clear enough for me. Glad people are winning, it does all sound very genuine. No problem with someone turning a profit from it either.

Well I made my decision and it's been built/collected. Made interesting reading all the replies to this thread. Thanks people. See here for images of the new build.....
