GT avalanche with an internal headset and suntour xcr forks, taken the forks off to fit some Charge rigid ones. The crown race fits the suntours but not the charge steerer. Both are 1 and 1/8"
any ideas?

that's bizarre either hit it harder or cut a small piece of it with a jewelery saw blade like some headsets come with. My hope headset was tight just required a wack.

A split crown race should be fine running sealed bearings but if the headset runs loose balls then don't cut it!

it was the opposite - loose not tight
the crown race was tiny and hidden under loads of gunge - what i thought was the crown race was the bottom bearing cover. All sorted now
just need some new caged bearings as these are shot!
