[#4051146]

Just rebuilt my rear wheel for my swift with a new hub and also decided to go Tubeless... reused rim and spokes, but used new nipples.

All weights minus cassette, disc and skewer

Old Wheel
Rim: Mavic TN719 29er
Spokes: Sapim Race + brass nipples
Hub: XT M756
Rim Tape: Velox
Tyre: Worn Geax Saguaro (tube version)
Tube: Bontrager 29er tube

Weight: 2,095g

New Wheel
Rim: Mavic TN719 29er
Spokes: Sapim Race + brass nipples
Hub: Nukeproof Generator
Rim Tape: Caffe Latex Tape
Tyre: New Specialised S works Ground Control
Caffe latex Valve + 80ml of foaming latex

Weight: 1,763g

Saving of 332g.. not bad

Tubless was simple as well (which was shocking), though did need to use that tip to pull the bead towards the rim with a tyre lever before inflating - once did that was ok to inflate with a track pump.

+ nukeproof hub seems nice and is nowhere near as loud as a hope hub which is great!

just the front to do now.

Yer got a nukeproof hub for the front wheel plus to go tubless as well... though have to do diy now instead.. grrr

was quite surprised how easy inflating tubeless tyre was.

honestly you change the hub and other bits and make a weight difference I can achieve in a porta-crappa or by sweating!!

Mike,

No, as above changed the hub as the XT one was knackered and I fancied trying tubeless.. just recorded the weight difference for interest..

If was had really been weight saving I would have also replaced the rims (crests) and used alloy nipples..

why do people twist stuff / don't read posts properly on here?

Si

ps I also had a big dump this morning - most satisfying but did not weigh it... so do not know the saving. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Over 300 grams is not a bad weight saving. The flaw in the have-a-crap argument is you can do that as well and save even more weight. It all adds up.

just so people can say they can save more weight by having a haircut..

did my front wheel - mainly to convert to tubeless..

300grams saved, through tyre change, hub (well had to match the rear though hub only contributed a saving of 50g over the XT hub, though it is convertible to 15mm axle - handy if i get new forks)

so overall F+R saving 632g...

Caffe Latex Kit was easy to use.
