A few weeks ago we went to Afan for the first time, and now we're planning another camping/MTB trip for a few days.

Both the Peak & Lake district have been mentioned for possible next trip, is one better than the other? Peak district is closer, but no big deal really. Any advice or trails to aim for?

Living in flat Suffolk we're planning to make the effort every couple of months to get around to some decent riding spots!

Either will be great for a weekend's riding. As the Peaks are closer, why not try them first. Save the Lake District for another trip.

Base yourselves in one of the several campsites near Edale and you've got some great trails from your door/tent!

both amazing, in my opinion it depends on the weather? If it has been dry and sunny then hit the peaks if its wet go for the lakes. Most of the Lakes have shaley type surfaces under them are steeper and drain better. Whilst the peaks are rocky then are also quite peaty so can be a boggy in places if its been chuckin it down.

The Peaks are nearer.

We stay at the campsite in Hayfield, straight onto the Pennine Bridleway plus other routes.

And a food pub very near.

Thanks for the tips 🙂

Do any of the campsites offer secure bike lockup, or is bike theft not such a problem in these parts? At Glyncorrwg we were (quite rightly from what I gather) advised to lock our bikes up well out of sight.

Lakes. For some reason, despite only living less that an hour away, I just cba with the peaks.

Book in to Coniston Old Hall Campsite and ride Walna Scar, Seathwaite and Grizedale.

Nowt better. imo
