Big (for me) day out yesterday. From Blair Atholl, north on the A9 cycle path, through the Gaick pass and on to Loch Insh / Feshiebridge. Return via Glen Feshie and Glen Tilt. 77 miles.

Brilliant but scorching blast around Holcombe and the Dead Marshes on Saturday.

M25 loop in preparation for national 24. Hot. Lost two kilos and suffered for the last 40 km. at least I left early enough to catch the Dartford shuttle before it shuts for a break (9-10:30).

Never thought I'd say this, living up here in the frozen North, but it was just too hot for anything strenuous. So, I put together a 43 mile loop, taking in a few nice bits of singletrack, with lots of gentle spinning along tracks and lanes, including a trip to the beach.

Went for a short ride on Sat, thinking it would be too hot, but it was simply lovely. Must admit, the best bit was sat on the hill in the breeze and spending some quality time with some new friends

Worst bit was a bramble trying to perform rhinoplasty on me. Got a stripey clown nose today.

I saw on Strava that you'd ridden over Fountains Fell - did you get any hassle riding past the farm at Tennant Gill given that it's a footpath?

No. In fact someone working there said hi. Can't guarantee you'd get the same treatment, mind you.

Considering how well surfaced it is for the most part on the eastern side, you can't make many arguments against in these conditions. Cracking descent over towards PYG. Techy at the top, fast as whatever from halfway.

Not that many have logged it on Strava in either direction so possibly they aren't too bothered especially with riders on their own or maybe pairs. I've run over that way many years ago but can't remember what it's like. Geograph shows it as eminently rideable.

I have considered trying the whole of the FF and Darnbrook Fell "ridge" but I think it needs a good freeze and the fat bike 🙂

Headed up north to go hill walking on the Pennines. From Dufton we headed up to High Cup Nick, then over the moors to the reservoir, bit of swimming at Cauldron Snout, before retracing our steps back to the ‘Nick. Then headed east to bag Murton Pike before dropping down and back to the pub at Dufton for a refreshing pint of Westmorland and to watch two smashed locals attempting to have a fight on the village green.

Whilst up on the moors we saw a few mtbers negotiating a bridge and sensibly pushing their bikes across it. Then saw one lone mtber on our way out and again on our return to the Pike and got chatting. It transpired he is an stw forumite, so @garethc, as promised ...
