So who's doing what?

Big ol' Cotswold XCbimblecore-lite here, starting in Winchcombe, anything between 60 and 90 km, depending on time/heat.

I'm off down the road to Halfords tonight.

Then Sunday a 42 mile MTB ride in the Dark Peak, which will (if I don't die) mark a couple of firsts for me - first proper offroad over 40 miles, and (I think) first total vertical ascent of over a mile.

That 46t cassette might just be worth its weight in gold.

I'll probably be doing some late evening road rides as it is too hot for me in the day.

Ride out of Ings and head up the Garburn but go left at the top, Bit of cheek off High Street, Nan Bield, Stile End, then back over Staveley Head Fell and through Grassgarth back to Ings. Last stop of the day will be the bakery @ Staveley for a hot beef ciabatta

Gonna try and get out of the house for 7am tomorrow for a visit to Cannock Chase. 1st time back since I did my knee over there last month. Haven’t decided what to ride yet, maybe a couple of dogs and lower cliff plus some exploration.

Heading to the Peak in the morning with the wife and tent. Jacob's Ladder loop tomorrow, followed by a White Peak loop from Rowsley on Sunday is the current plan.

Did the Bowderdale loop out of Sedbergh today. All I'll say that if it is on your list of must dos, it will never be in better condition than it is presently.

Hard work in 30 degree heat, mind you...and I still don't know if it is one of the best rides in the Dales, or just one of the most frustrating. 🙂 Flow was in short supply on the main singletrack...

Got out relatively early at ~0720 and did a relatively gentle paced 77 miler with ~5400 feet of climbing up in the South Downs, the temperature ramped up from ~1100 after a short stop by the cafe (which was shut, again, is it ever open?).

Got to Morzine yesterday, had a nice, chilled out day doing some DH laps & getting used to riding in the mountains again.

Doing the Passportes tomorrow for something different to do. Usually here bashing out laps, so, going for a decent pedal tomorrow:)

Heading towards Nova Scotia ..from Bowes in Co.Durham..had you going there ..eh !

It's a route from one of Derek Purdys bibles which I've been meaning to do for years and just never got around to it ..Nova Scotia being the name of a farm we pass a short distance in to the ride ..which he has called Deepdale Summits..

Having had exceptional dry weather there may also be an opportunity to extend the route towards the rocky outcrop of Goldsborough in Baldersdale and then loop back around on the Pennine Way over Cotherstone Moor to Race Yate on b/ways which are soggy most of the year ..we will see!

I'm joined by Dave & Jean and possibly Jaco if he is not too knackered after a delayed return from Scicily and late evening drive back from London..

Looking forward to chalking this one up..pics to follow

I was going to go up Triscombe for a bit of dh today but I went karting this morning and my arms are jelly so a nice chilled out xc ride on the Quantocks with a pub stop will do instead!

Relive Vid

Took a drive to Nant Y Airian this morning.

Started a little cooler and cloudier than of late, but it didn’t last long. Trail is dry, loose and dusty enough to make following difficult.

Love the place though.

Lovely sunny gravelly bridleway bimble this afternoon, linking up stuff I'd never explored before to the east of town. If I scratch my map a bit harder I might be able to join up a full circumnavigation.

Managed a couple of trails at Aberfoyle in the small time I had. Totally failed a couple of steep obsticales on a black one 🙁 really need to practice these drops. Only thing really holding me back from completing them.

Bowderdale Classic. One of my favourite rides. It's a pig of a climb out of Sedbergh, but after that it's just loads of sinewy singletrack.

Bowderdale's great isn't it?

Went down to Rider's Cycle Centre to see the YD300 riders set off and picked up a new dynamo hub front wheel that Stuart had built for me.

After a bit of the usual marital "Are we going to do a ride together?" discussion, we settled on a big Dales loop. First incline, I stand up and my drivetrain skips (I had thought it was the free hub which had subsequently been serviced). Not the chain which along with the cassette was brand new. Effing chainrings. Fortunately one of the shops in town had the 34T but with Ultegra chainsets having multiple versions there was no large ring to be had.

One new chainring later and we headed up the dale. It's now 11am

Over Fleet Moss and Buttertubs and my GPS decides to die! Fortunately I had my phone with me so turned on the Strava app on that. Afternoon tea at the Dales Bike Centre - saw a couple of the YD300 riders who'd made good time - then back over Greets Moss and Kidstones. A slow pint in Kettlewell then it was just the last hill home.

Turned out we did 156km so not quite the old fashioned century but a good day out with 2600m of climbing.

Bowderdale used to be "great " ..it had a lot more flow 10 years back ..but it's just deteriorated from what used to be a great bit of singletrack ..to a bit of a mess ..

I much prefer the return leg around Harter Fell / Murthwaite etc...if you are doing Adamthwaite ..you are doing it wrong !😁

Have done the Murthwaite line. I notice on the map that there are two BWs from Adamthwaite, one going to either side of Wandale Hill and meeting up at Narthwaite. I've not done these so what are they like? I think the BW back to Sedbergh from Cautley is great but my wife doesn't like it.

Wasn't too bad (did it Friday), just quite a lot of effort and concentration to keep flowing - there always seems to be something to clip your pedal and wreck your momentum. Wouldn't want to ride it except in drought conditions either.

Agree that the Murthwaite version is a lot better. The descent through the woods is fab (apart from being blocked by a fallen tree at one point).

I notice on the map that there are two BWs from Adamthwaite, one going to either side of Wandale Hill and meeting up at Narthwaite.

I've done one of them previously. Nothing to write home about.

After waiting 10 years for the perfect conditions ..managed to cross Deepdale Summits off my to do list ( In Derek Purdys Mountain bike guide Durham )..

I'm glad we waited as this ride even slightly moist would be a slog ..yesterday it was brilliant and we added in the trip over to Goldsborough ..an impressive rocky outcrop..

Dave & Jean overlooking Battlehill..the M.O.D.firing range ..on the alternative Pennine Way B/W ..Goldsborough in the distance ..

Managed to get out with the boy yesterday morning. Only 11KM as my rear tyre deflated, with no obvious signs of a puncture and no obvious leaking sealant. Got home the tyre fell off and I discovered that the Decathlon sealant I put in four weeks ago had all dried up! It might be cheap, but it doesn't last...

Was hoping to get out this morning, as we're sans kids, as we were at a disco in the woods last night. I was driving so figured that I'd be up early and out. Feel like I'd had eight pints thought, must have been all the passive weed smoking 🌿🚬. So it's a trip into town to buy another cheap camping mat, so I can put the rear tyre up tubeless again, for a ride with the local Scouts tomorrow night.

Flat spell broke so went for a wave last night. Didn’t get out of the water until 10.30.

Dry spell broke this morning but forecast to dry up after lunch so might head out for some hero dirt later this evening....

Can't decide whether to head out, much later than hoped (felt like death warmed up at 0600), for a 60+ miler...

During my groggy indecisiveness wasted morning, Met Office have now extended the torrential weather warning with thunder and hail further eastwards, to cover all the South Downs just west of Worthing.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings#?date=2018-07-01&lat=51.0071&lon=-0.9375

Already mid 20s out there.

Bugger!

3 Relives into one video, good day out at Lets Ride Manchester but.... some people need to have a word with themselves about stopping at junctions - to let the traffic cross and whoever thought about finishing the sprint within a few meters of the lights/stopping control at the end of deansgate, in the second it took to register people stopped in front of me I was doing some manual ABS and squeeling some rubber

Just over an hour on the road in Saddleworth early this morning. UV intolerant skin is a bitch; I’ve not ridden properly for weeks. Bring the rains.
