Duddon Valley and Eskdale. Hardly saw a soul all ride and not one other MTB rider.

Road ride on the lanes of West Lancs.

I was gonna do the Strava 100km Feb challenge but riding solo on the flat (in the wind) was just too mind-numbing so I headed back for the hills and called it a day at 83km.

Yeah, Birks Bridge is a fantastic spot for a swim in summer. Dalegarth Bridge in Eskdale is brilliant too. Scenery was lovely, but the bridleways between The Duddon and the Esk have been destroyed by a combination of clear felling and the recent rain. Was hard work really.

Had a last minute chance to join four of my mates on a westwards trip to FOD and Afan this weekend. They'd all booked the uplift so I headed off solo to the blue, then the new extended red (briefly accompanied by a family of wild boar). Lunch, fullface on, went to hop on the uplift for the usually quieter afternoon and found dozens of downhillers waiting who'd turned up to practice for the mini DH race the next day. Rather than stand around waiting I had an afternoon of pushing/pedalling up, had a go on the race course, and then the rootastic fun of the other tracks. Great!

Headed deep into Wales, stayed at the Queens in Glyncorrwg (bargain!) and rode Blade at Afan on Sunday and it was one of those rides where everything came together - and that final rocky descent is brilliant. After lunch a couple of us set off to ride some more of the trails but by the time we were up at the start of that section it was clear my legs were empty. Dropped in, absolutely flat out, the best I think I've ever ridden a bike. Ran out of steam in the final yards so just missed out on getting into the top 100 out of 4000 Stravaists but even so, that's pretty damned quick for me. 42 miles and 6000' vertical over the weekend. Felt it on my commute today...

Hadn't ridden the Spitfire since I got my modded Zero AM up and running in January and I was slightly concerned it might feel a bit short of reach and slack of seat tube in comparison. It didn't, it was absolutely fantastic both uphill, along, and downhill, in the air, through the rough, ripping the berms. Hurrah for 800mm carbon bars - an accidental upgrade but a really good one. Now how to ride that well all the time?

Dry! Blue skies! Our bikes had even stayed clean for a day and a half (they got muddy straight after this photo was taken).

Rode for the first time in about a year yesterday. Exploring the new area we live in (Hythe, Kent). Found some nice trails, totally rekindled my enthusiasm. I'll be out there again tomorrow.

I vote we keep this one running.. they get confused and lost if everyone doesn't play. Plus, we'll see the seasons roll on..

Whats everyone else think?

Took junior (13) out on hilly home 25 mile road loop, his first time clipped in. He did well ! A scuffed sti, some bashed bar tape and a bent mech hanger, but all consumables and we both had fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Holy crap, it was freeking cold today. Set off in 6C, icy, bit of snow so chose to do hill sprints instead up and over Beacon Hill. Sweating hard, pace on, and after my 10th up and over it hailed and the temp dropped at least 6-7C and the wind got up, I got very cold, very very quickly.. That was my day over.

The Bike..

Snuck out for a couple of hours on the dirty drop bar bike once I got back from the Rugby Club and the Wife got back from her mate's hen do.

I think one of the reasons I love this bike is that it allows a couple of hours blast at anytime during the weekend without worry of riding cheeky trails during peak hours.

Out on the road bike yesterday doing more training for the Fred Whitton around the Bowland fells. It was such a good day I thought I'd take out my new summer bike. Just short of 78miles with 7800ft of climbing

well I didn't get the new stem and bars fitted and we didn't go to Cannock ๐Ÿ™ I was greedy though and had a quick 10 miler out in local mud on Saturday morning then in the evening went out with my mate from Alsager, out along flat dark lanes and bridleways for distance and speed rather than Gnar!

Well it's chuffin' Friday again so your Plans please Ladies and Gentlepersonages...

I have started, oh a pretty normal day of checking out routes and daydreaming of endless ribbons of tarmac, low cut hedges, groomed fields, blazing sunshine, pheasants and pigs.

Tonights beer, a Spring Porter from my most favourite pub in the whole world, a tome, a rhyme, stanzas all nine..

[img] [/img]

And a sneaky, rather sprinted hack.. the bike for the weekend will be..

A wee solo ride tomorrow. Heading down to stinchar bridge to do the Cornish loch, loch doon, Nic o the loup, loch bradan circuit. Weather looks shite mind, but it's a pretty weather proof circuit. I'll post up some pics tomorrow night.
