I'll kick things off with a family Munro day. Two walkers and three bikers, with youngest_oab's first biking Munro.
His description of the top singletrack is 'fruity', the flat out (52kph!) track as 'a fair giggle'.
We even beat the rain, arriving back at car with only a few minutes drizzle.

Felt good to get back to the Lakes again. Don't think my arse has ever been as wet, though...

Out walking in the Peak this weekend for us. Hot for the time of year. Loads out on bikes and walking. More like a summers day. May get a local ride in when we get home tomorrow

@matt_outandabout

Ben Chonzie?

Ben Vorlich just along the road is another good one, a bit more technical in places though!

Like Ivan ^^ there, I was struck down Thursday. So missed an amazing all day ride in the FoD yesterday where the boys ended up sitting outside the pub drinking beer in the sunshine.

Made it out today to local trails. Trails brilliant for end feb, rider rasping like a 20 a day man and at least 20% of my body is phlegm and snot :(. Still it was worth it to see the sun chasing the fog away.

My mate David putting up with my whinging..

Another shot in B&W as it was such awesome light.

I’m off for a lie down, a Lemsip and a long talking to from the better half along the lines of ‘I told you so’. Yeah, but it was worth it 🙂

Lovely spring morning. Pines was busy, so we went off piste a fair bit. Took a tumble hitting a hidden stump coming down a steep bank and my bike landed like this:

I now have a bit of a shiner and a tear in my five tens. Lovely ride overall though.

Had an 80km West Yorkshire club road ride planned for today, but the retaining screw at both ends on my disc brakes were stuck fast and I needed to put new pads in. I managed to sort the front but the rear is in the LBS.

So I did some actual mountain biking, taking the plus hard tail up around Blackstone Edge and rode Mordor, which is running great and ends in one of my favourite descents.

After falling off an spannering my self last spring, and then work went completely mental (i'm self employed so it's hard to turn down lots of nice paying customers!) i'm ashamed to say i've not really had a proper ride on a mountain bike for, well, nearly 11 months!

So today, i dusted off my kit, sanded the rust off the discs on my bike and headed to Woburn (my local) for a bit of R&R!

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

The sun shone, the sky was blue, and the trails were fast and buff! Unfortunately, after all that time away from the saddle, i was neither fast, nor buff!! 😉

80 miles up and down the Downs for me on the gravel bike - last bit of training before Strade Bianche (the SDW is pretty much a 'white road'). Beautifully sunny and one of those days where you feel like you could ride forever.

After a cracking walking weekend in the Peak it would have been a shame not to have fitted a ride in when we got back. Trails were fast and dry

The sun was out at Haldon so got out and made the most it. I like that I can claim "playing about on my bike" counts as training!

Busy weekend planned this week but this weather plus my new bike arriving midweek meant I was riding no matter what.

I was out at first light on Saturday just around familiar trails at Cannock so a quick lap of the dog with a stop off at Stile cop for a trip around the red route. I evidently hadn't got enough pressure in the rear and it bottomed out and blew my feet off the pedals on one of the bigger small drops, I pushed the seatpost right up to the collar just using my bodyweight on my balls. What fun.

Still managed to finish the run without even stopping.

Bike is great, weather was lovely. Then I got home and took the kids to watch the Lego movie. Had a nice snooze on the Odeon leather recliners.

Nice walk over the chase today

No photos

Mum and Ken’s grave at Goosey

As in Goosey that's near Stanford in the Vale?
Where I grew up, and my dad still lives there.
Lovely little church with a great view of the downs.

Lovely ride up to Haldon starting at Kenn.

Rode up Holloway lane, mucked about on the café side trails, did some cheeky singletrack out the back of the racecourse, a couple of long off-piste trails at Haldon proper, and then bumped into some mates, and we headed back via the café side and St Andrews lane.

Lovely weather, and almost dusty in places 😎

Heavy legs after a week of walking and riding in The Lakes, so quite gently round the woods this morning. Amazing weather for February and even the Northants clay was mostly dry.

Thats the one. My stepdad spent a lot of his life there, your dad may have heard his name - Ken Woodward. He was buried there 4 years ago.
I used to know Goosey a long time ago when the Pound was still open.

24 miles on the Quantocks, 3500ft of climbing, coffee and cake. Lovely weather once the sun burnt through. Trails really dry for the time of the year, felt like I was cheating the seasons.

I imagine he would, we moved there in 1980.
The pound was a great pub. Closed when I was about 15/16 I think. I may have had the occasional pint there. Ahem.

We moved to Wantage in 63 so my first (illegal) drinks were in the Shoulder of Mutton a few years later when I was revising for O Levels. The Pound was a place for many late night lock ins as the police never bothered coming out that far (they had a decent social club of their own) then a careful ride back via the lanes to Hanney or Grove.
Bad old days.
