And I'd like to add...*

...that as much as democracy is a worthy ideal, to save having ten different weekend photo callenge threads I reckon that MTG should be appointed tsar of the challenge. Monuments sounds good. I know one that is miles away from the sea.

Oooh, I've always wanted to be a tsar or a supremo.
Think of me as a benevolent dictator, I'll try to start a new thread every week, but if ever I'm away for a weekend and haven't posted by Sunday night, we can have a peasant uprising and someone else can take over for that week.

I like the lateral thinking with the gang plank.
I'm all for interpreting the challenge loosely and using your imagination to get a more interesting picture.
I've heard Clifton Suspension Bridge described as a monument to Brunel, high ground wrecks could be considered as monuments to the aircrew who dies in them, even if they are not officially dedicated as such, and then there's those blue plaques all over the place.

surely the boat one has a double meaning - it's close to the boat's bridge! ๐Ÿ™‚

i never made it out this weekend for the challenge, but hope to next week for something *ahem* monumental!

is this a double wammy, or is that just a sign and a bridge?

What a great thread!

I have been off the bike for so long, save for a few "same old" local rides. Seeing all the different locations makes me want to go out and explore again .

got to get fit. Got to get out. Got to take pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

I've heard Clifton Suspension Bridge described as a monument to Brunel

Does that mean I've already done mine for next week then? ๐Ÿ™‚

(

if you didn't see it above )

I was working over the weekend so mine is today and tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Nearly managed to wreck me and the bike taking this shot - I jammed the back wheel in a gap between the sleepers, scrambled down the bank and the bike promptly fell over, off the back of the bridge and down the gully aaaaargh!! When I managed to extract it I found the chain had come off and managed to wedge itself behind the granny ring - much tugging and swearing ensued - thank god for my Gerber pliers - and all was well.
