Going for a weekend in the campervan at the end of March with the little lady. Will take the bikes, but she's a newbie so gnarl-factor needn't be high.

Where should we go? The requirements are:

- Within a couple of hours' drive from Brizzle
- Good riding for relative newbie
- Tracks hold up well to likely March downpours
- Not interested in trail centres
- Real purty countryside

I know we could go to the Brecons, Quantocks etc, but it would be nice to go somewhere less 'obvious' if you know what I mean, expand the old horizons a bit.

And if you know a good campsite with pub nearby, even better ๐Ÿ™‚

I live in Bristol, my first weekend away in our van is going to be Porlock, fits your requirements. Also, the riding is as placid or gnar as you want it to be. Good pubs and campsites too, well under 2hrs drive on a good run.

I reckon the weather is often better in March / April than the summer. And you'll see some lambs!

Or what about Rhayader (wet)or Church Stretton (Long Mynd )?

Hmm, Porlock...

Thought Long Mynd, but I don't really fancy heading up the M6 on a Friday night. Rhayader's an option, not been there for years. In fact it was the venue of my forst ever mountain biking weekend away (1996 IIRC)

Mmmm, summer in Porlock and the Lower Ship drinking Otter....

Some of my favourite riding is in Horner Wood, climbing up to Dunkery Beacon and back. Real variety to the trails.

Rhayader could be fairly moist in March, or any time of the year really!
