Is it just me or are 3/4 shorts not cool any more?ย  Being a lanky git with knobbly knees I have always appreciated the extra length even in hot weather. I'm trying to track down some of the Endura MT500 Spray 3/4 but it seems they have been discontinued. I have an old pair and they are pretty much the perfect short for me, especially with the weather at the moment. Add in knee pads and long socks and you're good to go. Even in hot weather (for the UK) most of the time you still appreciate the lack of wet bum from the inevitable splashing.

Can anyone recommend something similar or am I going to have to scare small children with my knees and complain about them getting cold?

Have a look at the Madison offerings - I think they are now marketed as DTE (Defy The Elements) - waterproof and also heavy duty (think like soft shell sort of fabric).

I recently bought a pair of Madison Addict 3/4 dark shorts. They are soft shell at the front and full waterproof material at the rear. They a great quality and have Velcro waist tabs at each size to keep them nice and snug. Would def recommend.

I've got some of the Madison ones, pretty good fit, fairly waterproof and keep my knees warm 😁
