It's far better to ride down walna scar into coniston than to climb out that way. It's a fantastic day out either way though.

The route in the routes section loops round via Torver!?

We have done the MBR Coniston Killer Loop a couple of times, thinking of reversing & adding Walna Scar but dont want to be too ambitious! ๐Ÿ˜†

Down into Coniston - one of the best descents around imo.....if loose rocky stuff is your bag, you'll love it!

It's an all time classic Lakes ride and a decent undertaking. A great ride for proper mountain bikers.

Best done from West to East as Sfb says,I prefer the climb from Stephenson ground,on the forest side of the river (lickla)over cow moss joining the old slate mine about halfway up the main climb.(nicer climb)

The best decent/route from the summit (imho) turns off the bridleway via Tramgarth, and some great Singletrack through Scarhead (Torver)to the Pub!
Its tricky to find this decent, sfb will know it, I would recommend a bit of local knowledge(Boggies?) to really appreciate it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is a much faster decent, than the loose walna track, and favoured by myself as theres very few walkers, and much more offroad decending!

Enjoy!

It's great - the descent down to Seathwaite from Stephenson Ground is really good as well.
