[#11784334]

Hi,

Having used Garmins for the last 10 years I've decided to try a wahoo after my 820 battery almost gave up.

So far, I really like it but I'm having a bit of trouble using the inbuilt navigation.

On my road bike it keeps wanting to take me on bridleways and although some of them have been brilliant, some have been too much for my 25mm tyres.</span>

Is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks

I always plan routes on RidewithGPS and then upload them to the Bolt.

How are you planning your routes?

I use google maps and convert with mapstogpx.com. Does use bridleways, so I often have to add extra stops to keep it on the tarmac.

Plan them on Strava or RWGPS. I’d never let a GPS device plan a route for me

I normally plan my routes in advance but I thought I'd try the wahoo routing.

Im still looking for a good free option for planning routes. I normally mtb and I know most routes, it's just the odd occasions I take a longer road ride.

RideWithGPS for route planning here....the routes automatically sync with my Elemnt Bolt.

Unless we are both missing the option then the routes it chooses will include anything that is legal to ride on rather than tarmac or what might in reality be the fastest way there.

I've been so impressed with the wahoo bolt that I've just bought a roam.

In the routing options you can pick mtb, road, cross or gravel. Should fix the problems I had with the bolt.

Stealth add in case anyone wants a bolt 😜

Wahoo will just send you down the quickest route, regardless of surface. I would highly recommend Komoot.

The latest software update allows for surface choice as damascus says above. It's not foolproof but use of satellite overview when planning on RidewithGPS should avoid unsurfaced routes.

Last time I used the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt in built (or in-app I should probably say) routing I was very glad I was on my gravel bike for all the reasons described above! I've only got the old school black and white Bolt so maybe it's better on the newer ones where you can choose route type.

Anyway in the meanwhile I plan my routes on Strava, and am holding out for the Roam 2!
