Does anyone know whether Vitus stick more bikes on the market throughout the year, or is it a question of once a particular 2018 model is sold out, that's it?  They've sold out of the one I had my eye on, and it's only just April.

It may only be April but 2018 bikes will have been around for 6 months or more already and will likely have rolled off the production line 9 months ago. It's more likely that those same production facilities are already gearing up for the 2019 models.

They still had stock in September/October last to clear at a discount so I doubt they'll have stopped production just yet.

They better not run out of XL escarpe VR 27.5 by the 16th, will be ordering mine then!

Oh and they've only been on the CRC website since the new year, 4 months.

And they updated the Frames to be longer/slacker and went boost this year so it's likely there won't be any changes to the alloy frames for 2019.

OP - it's probably due to everyone buying bikes now the weather has gone above 10 degrees, it'll come back in stock soon I'd guess. If they had no more stock coming in from April to January they'd not sell any for 6 months of the year!! 😀

Which is exactly why you stop production early.

Best emailing CRC. I have a 2018 Escarpe VRX 29 which was in stock then went out of stock but is now back again so perhaps with some models at least they get more however they are still trying to shift a few 2017 bikes across the range so perhaps built/ordered less this time...

I did.  The usual response 'I don't know the answer to that question, sorry'.  These big companies pay people to answer questions without actually giving them the ability to find out the answer because they don't even work in the same building. (I'm guessing).

Response from Vitus

--------------

Thanks for your email.

I am sorry to hear you have not been able to source a 2018, Vitus Sentier VRS+ model before they have sold out.

We did not anticipate the unprecedented high demand we have had so far this year, and as such our retailer partners have currently sold out. We are currently in the process of manufacturing more of these bikes and should receive confirmation of this within the next few months.

Once we can confirm an expected due date we will update our retail partners so they can update their listings.

Sorry I cannot be of more help for now, if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to ask.

-------------

I'm not quite sure why he's saying they're sold out, because they're not.  I just wanted to know if they'd have them all in the sale at the end of the summer like last year.  If they're making a bunch more, it looks like they probably will be shifting them all well into next year.

I've just seen that the Escarpe 29 VRX has won MBR's 29er trail bike of the year 2018.

So it would be stupid not to capitalise on that...

However the article does say that Vitus ARE planning a change to the 2019 frame, the seat tube is too tall.

I might take a punt on the Escarpe 29 VR, so I'll keep watching this thread with interest.

34" leg on a Large VRX, comes with 150mm Reverb but I have about 2" of post drop available so could fit a 175 easily enough. I guess lower would give some people more options. Don't forget BC 10% discount....even more of a bargain with that

Isn't it that MBR have suggested the seat tube is too long rather than Vitus having acknowledged that it is?

Also I find mbr's comment strange as the seat tube is no longer than the 10/10 scoring canyon spectral, 523mm Vs 520mm on the XL.

I've priced up the VR 27.5 with the canyon spectral AL 6.0 and there's £682 difference between them, enough to upgrade to GX eagle and the brakes and have plenty left over. The spec on the spectral is slightly better but not that'll much better.

The seat tube is unnecessarily long on the large, which will be one of the most-popular sizes.

483mm, should be 440 or 450mm max.

From the article...

Vitus has upgraded the dropper post
this year to a 150mm unit, but it hasn’t
chopped anything off the seat tube to
accommodate the additional length
of the post. This meant that at full
extension the saddle was around 15mm
too high for mbr’s average (5ft 10in)
testers, and it’s going to be much more
if you’re upsizing from a medium frame.
Vitus did say it will be correcting this
on 2019 bikes but a quick fix now is to
either swap the 150mm Reverb for a
125mm, or buy a 150mm X-Fusion Manic
dropper post, which is about 20mm
shorter overall than the Reverb.

Ahh didn't see that bit. Not an issue for me as I'm 6ft 3in and will be on an XL size frame, should be plenty of room for the 150mm dropper.

Edit: actually it'll be pretty much all the way in by my calculations: current bike has 740mm from rails to BB, with 180mm cranks. The XL escarpe is 523mm seat tube + 205mm stack height from the bottom of the collar to the rails on a 150mm brand X XL dropper.

That makes 728mm minus the 10mm shorter cranks, so about 20mm to spare... Phew!!

Yes but if you're 5'10" you should be on a Medium so that's a bit of an odd observation.  I'm 6ft on a Large Escarpe and I could easily fit a 150mm dropper.  Although the 2017 came with a 120mm one.

Looking at bikes like the Whyte s-150 the seat tube does seem overly long on the vitus, but the spectral is the same. I do agree it's stupid to have a low stand over but high seat tube, doesn't allow people to upsize and have a long dropper.

Typical MBR comment. Their testers must have short legs and really long arms. At 6'3 I find my Large big enough especially when seated! Reminds me of how when tapered head tubes started to appear, any bike with a non-tapered they suddenly deemed unrideable due to head tube flex, couldn't be ridden round corners etc....

ta11pau1 I think they all come with 170mm cranks

Yeah 170mm cranks on the escarpe, I'm using a borrowed hybrid bike at the moment to commute which has 180mm cranks so that gives me another 10mm.

Technically I could go for a large as the reach is still decent at 470mm (495mm for the XL) but I'm quite long in the arms so XL will be for me.
