I'm thinking of getting a Merida Trail 300D for my wife & son (they both can fit on a 15" frame).

They seem to be good value and with 120mm forks will be good for trail centre stuff.

Has anyone got any views / experience of them? Thanks

I have 8 700ds as rental bikes. Overall good bikes and Ive thrashed mine up and down Spanish mountains for 4 years. No major issues and really fun bikes. Ive used up to 140mm forks.

Three niggles though.

1 - The design of the seat quick release clamp means it doesnt clamp properly and you get that sinking feeling. I had to grind a bit off the clamp so I could spin it round 180 degrees.

2 - Derraileur hanger material. Its too soft and they bend far too easily. OK, easier to bend back but I dont have this happen on other bikes I own like like spesh, kona or mondy.

3 - The 100mm stock stem is too long for a bike like this IMO.

What is the spec of the 300 these days?

I bought a 300 as a test bike 4 years ago and it came with suntour forks (junk within weeks and replaced with Pike's) and deore hydro brakes (not up to the big mountains in Spain) Everything else worked well enough and had longevity.

I think it would be great for trail centres.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feeback. I spotted the stem needs to be shorter - but have a spare one. Given the price I don't expect it to be perfect but t least not a minger.
