Evening all.
I've had a go at a bit of editing from the go pro footage today featuring Scooby my Irish Setter and myself at Delamere.
No big jumps or anything like that!!!
Please have a look, but be gentle with any criticism. ๐
Gid stuff.
Looked like a nice mellow day riding. ๐

[*]Drop the transitions and stick to simple cuts.[/*]
[*]Trim the clips more so the viewer isn't waiting for the action the happen.[/*]
[*]Something to get used to with the GoPro is that because of the wide angle you don't need to be that far away from it before you become a spec in the distance. Set the camera up closer to the good bit you are trying to film; like going over the bridge for example.[/*]
[*]Mix up close and far shots, shots with the camera on the bike and off the bike. Try setting it up at different heights so sometimes it looks down, sometimes up etc.[/*]
[*]If the end bit was about the same length as the start bit I think it might "bookend" it better. The end bit felt a bit long as was. [/*]
[*]I'm guessing that it was what ever you edited the video in that screwed you over in terms of the black all the way round and reduced the res to 480p when you probably filmed in at least 720p. I'd suggest trying to work out why that happened. Maybe there is a 720p wide screen project template in the software you used that would get round this.[/*]

Hope that was gentle and constructive enough. ๐
yodagoat - thanks.
composite - thanks for your comments. I did think it all looked a bit too far away myself and too be honest I normally have the chest harness on, but didn't bother taking it yesterday.
Things, as they say, can only get better!
Live on edge of Delamere and can't quite place where that little bridge is? Care to share...
Do you reckon your dog would let you put the chest harness on him? I tried on my cat once... I won't be trying again. ๐

Approx grid ref sj 553 706- You come from the visitor centre and go left over the railway and 1st right as if going through the middle of go ape on the main forest track.
As the track starts to swing left towards the lake, there is a cheeky trail on the rhs of the bend. This is rooty and if you follow this with the mossy pond on your rhs you'll pop out by the bridge... Easy ๐ Go left immediately after the bridge and follow the narrow trail to the main path again..
Composite - He'd probably hide in the trees and find a way of taking it off and leaving it behind!!
I did consider a small carabiner on his collar and fasten the camera to that, with it set as upside down mode.
I'll maybe give it a go at home and the local park though first to keep an eye on him.
Would you not try again with the cat because you now know what he gets up to behind your back. A bit like sun, sex and suspicious parents!
kendonagasaki - D'you know I go speeding past there so often yet never thought to turn down. Will have to take a look next time.
Do you ever get over to Primrose wood? Some great bits of singletrack there.

cor blimey used to ride there in the 80's, then down grestys waste into delamere. I do seem to remember the switchbacky road climb up kelsall hill being a bit of bugger as we used to ride out from chester.
haven't ridden at delemere for years, going to have to go and explore now. cheers OP ๐
mmel - I've never taken the bike through Primrose wood, but been often enough for walks with Scooby. Too be honest I've often thought how much fun the singletrack looks.
I'll get there one day.
tazzymtb - Great fun exploring through Delamere and I've got a loop of approx 14 miles now mainly on singletrack. Muddy though!

All I came out with were several nasty claw gauges on the palm of one hand and no footage. All in all not a successful experiment. ๐
Great video - really enjoyed seeing where you ride, and the river shots were great.
Again, hopefully this is gentle. The video takes a bit of time to get going. Maybe instead of seeing you and the car, maybe try and get some shots introducing Scooby. That would have been interesting. And yeah, maybe think about the same at the end. Once you have done two or three rides you will have more footage for a fuller video.
And yeah, the black around the edges wasn't great, even in expanded mode the screen was small. But I am sure you will get that sorted out in time with the settings.
But well done. Good music choice too. It's always fun to see rides with dogs.
composite. I'll get my 13yr old to try and get the harness on Scooby as he's daft enough. ๐
And thanks for the comments simon. Maybe I should give the directors chair over to Scooby ๐
I think its been agreed that 1:12 is the absolute maximum for a home shot Mountain biking movie.
This a rule I established a few years ago and hasn't failed me yet
edit the **** out of everything
Plumber - with all due respect I couldn't disagree more ๐
What you need is apes, lots of apes for the establishing shots. And if your mid 1990s deep house track lasts 8:38 then so be it ๐
So yeah kendonagasaki - get yourself some apes for your next masterpiece and you'll be fine.

One of only few of my orginal bits of "shore" ๐
Why is it in slow motion ? ๐
Colp - how's the downhill section off old pale these days, are you still working it? I forgot to check when I was up there the other day.
shinsplints - to allow Scooby to keep up of course ๐
simonralli - not too many apes around Delamere, but I get the idea.
I can't wait to have another go though. Storyboard ready!!

I've done nothing for a while up there, too wet!
Hopefully do more after Easter, I want to find some big flat stones and finish armouring the soggiest bit, and sort some decent drainage. The trees are growing nicely though so in a couple more years it'll be a bit more loamy and hopefully dry more quickly.
There's a nice new singletrack line now though between the original course and Tom's new course, rode it in the snow the other day, a lot of fun, goes on forever!
Myself and Deano always carry our folding shovels so do a bit of building here and there, did a nice little ski jump by the last railway bridge before fox howl before Xmas, drops down into a dip then a natural tabletop back onto the main path.
