VeloVault 2 wheel service "how to"

I was searching for this information earlier but couldn't find anything, so have posted a short guide here in case someone else searches Google for it.

If you own a Velovault bike box the bearings in the wheels are made of cheese. Given that they're usually stored in damp sheds or garages and then subjected to the abuse of car parks and baggage handlers, before too long the box will be so annoyingly loud when you drag it along people will pretend they aren't travelling with you.

BikeBoxOnline (the manufacturer) charge £50 for a set of replacement wheels, which is overkill when the bearings are the bit that wear out.

Parts needed:

- 8x 8mm x 22mm x 7mm bearings (to service all 4 wheels) [eBay, grand total £7.90 delivered from 4Bearings]
- Clean grease.

Tools needed:

- 10mm spanner and socket
- Hammer and something to drift the old bearing out

Step 1: Remove the wheel bolts and the sleeves. Clean and set aside.

Step 2: Gently knock out the old bearings. The plastic wheels are fairly soft and just a soft tap or two will get them out. Clean the wheels.

Step 3: Press in the new bearings and reassemble the wheels. They go in easily with a thin smear of grease.

Step 4: You can replace some of the grease in the front swivel joints by squirting in clean grease to push out the old stuff.

Hope this helps future me when I search for this in another 5 years.
