Looking at doing some CX races, but not going to get a specific CX bike for this, just use my 29er hardtail (specialized carve ) with the forks locked out etc.
currently have maxis beaver mud tyres on there 2.0 width, should I consider fitting some skinnier tyres in order to feel a bit more competitive with the other riders on CX bikes?
And, if so, and recommendations for tyres without breaking the bank?
Cheers!
Well, there aren't that many races left, but yes, CX tyres will be quicker on typical UK CX courses - plus you'll have teh benefit of enormous mud clearance. I think I saw a massive blowout on tyres on Planet X the other day, think they had some Vittoria clinchers which are a nice tyre.
Clement or challenge I'd say. Nothing bigger than a 33c. The mainstream mtb tyre manufactures just don't seem to be able to do proper cross racing treads. If you only get one tyre id say clement pdx. They measure a bit big so will play better with your 29er rims
Mich mud cross clincer tyres, perfect and fit 29er rims.
Clements are good the schwalbe rocket Ron is OK until it gets cloggy as the tread is took densely packed. Also been pleased with the Specialized tyres for the money.
